The late afternoon sun cast a golden hue over the backyard where Kylian and Jordan had spread out their picnic blanket. A light breeze rustled through the leaves, carrying with it the scent of freshly cut grass and the promise of a peaceful evening. It was a perfect setting for their weekly "check-in" session, a tradition they had started to reconnect amidst their busy lives.
Jordan poured a glass of for each of them, handing one to Kylian before settling down beside him. They took a moment to sip their drinks, enjoying the quiet before Jordan spoke up. "You know, I've been thinking..."
Kylian looked over, his curiosity piqued. "About what?"
"About... us, about our future," Jordan began tentatively. "We never really talked about... babies. About when or if we actually want babies."
Kylian's expression softened, his gaze turning thoughtful. "Yeah, we haven't."
Jordan considered this for a moment, her thoughts turning inward. They had danced around the topic before, touched upon it in fleeting moments of hope and hesitation. But now, with the evening stretching out before them, it felt like the right time to delve deeper.
Jordan hesitated, unsure of how Kylian would respond. "I mean, we were just starting to figure things out when..." Her voice trailed off, the memory of their loss still a tender spot in their hearts.
"Yeah," Kylian murmured, reaching out to squeeze Jordan's hand gently. "Do you ever wonder... what would have happened if we hadn't lost the baby?"
Jordan took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. "Sometimes. I think about whether we would manage, you know? Both of us at the peak of our careers..."
Kylian nodded, his mind drifting to possibilities they had only briefly considered before their world had shifted. "It would be a challenge. Balancing everything. I mean even now we barely have time for each other, what about when there's a baby?"
"But maybe..." Jordan started, her voice growing more confident. "Maybe it would have been worth it. To see our child grow up, to be there for them."
"Yeah," Kylian agreed softly. "I think about that too. Have you ever thought whether you want kids and also when?."
"I've thought about it," Jordan confessed, her tone thoughtful. "And... I think I do want kids. Someday."
Kylian's heart skipped a beat, relief flooding through him. "Yeah? Me too."
"But when?" Jordan asked softly.
Kylian took a moment to consider his answer, his mind racing with possibilities. "I think... when we're both ready. When it feels like the right time."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, the weight of their shared dreams and uncertainties mingling with the warmth of the setting sun. "Do you think we're ready?" Kylian finally asked, his voice tinged with vulnerability.
Jordan met his gaze, a small smile playing on her lips. "I think... we're getting there. We're stronger now, more settled in our lives."
They leaned into each other, the promise of the future unfolding before them. It wasn't about forgetting their loss, it was about honoring it while embracing the possibility of new beginnings.
Jordan looked over, a faint smile playing on his lips." Let's talk about the wedding."
"Yeah," Kylian admitted. "With everything that's happened, maybe it's too much pressure to plan a big wedding right now."
Jordan nodded slowly, understanding the weight of Kylian's words. "I've been feeling the same way. It's supposed to be a joyous occasion, but... it feels overwhelming."
"We could still have our dream wedding," Kylian suggested tentatively, his eyes searching Jordan's for reassurance. "Just... not right now."
Jordan's expression softened with relief. "You mean... elope?"
Kylian nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah. We could go somewhere quiet, just the two of us. And then, on our first anniversary, we can have the celebration we've always imagined."
Jordan's eyes brightened with excitement. "I love that idea. It takes the pressure off, and we can focus on what really matters, us."
"Exactly," Kylian agreed, a weight lifting off his shoulders. "We deserve to start our marriage on our terms, without all the stress."
They sat in quiet contemplation, the decision settling between them like a warm embrace. For Kylian and Jordan, their relationship had always been about navigating life's challenges together, and this was just another step in that journey.
"When should we do it?" Jordan asked, breaking the silence with a touch of excitement.
Kylian thought for a moment, his mind already racing with possibilities. "How about next month? We can take a few days off, find a beautiful spot, and just... be."
Jordan's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "I'm in. Let's do it."
As the evening deepened around them, they knew they had each other to lean on, to support, and to love through whatever came next.
