The excitement in the air was palpable as Jordan arrived at Parc des Princes to watch Kylian's match. It was her first time attending a game in a while, and she could feel the energy from the crowd as they filed into the stadium, eager to witness another dazzling performance from PSG's star player.Jordan found her seat in the VIP section, surrounded by a mix of players' families and club executives. She settled in, excited to see Kylian do what he did best. As she was about to take a sip from her drink, she felt a tap on her shoulder.
Turning around, she was met with a familiar face—Michael, her former law school classmate. Jordan's eyes widened in surprise, her smile instantly lighting up.
" Michael! Wow, it's been ages!" Jordan exclaimed, standing to give him a friendly hug. "I know, right?" Michael replied, his grin just as wide. "What are the chances? I didn't think I'd run into you here. "
They both sat down, the noise of the stadium momentarily fading into the background as they caught up.
Michael had been one of the few people from law school that Jordan had stayed somewhat in touch with over the years. They had always had a good rapport, though she hadn't realized back then that he was in love with her.
Their paths had diverged after law school, with Michael pursuing corporate law while Jordan had gone on to specialize in criminal litigation.
"So, what brings you here?" Michael asked, glancing around at the buzzing stadium. "I didn't know you were into football. "Jordan laughed.
"Well, my husband plays for PSG, so I'm kind of obligated to be here. "Michael's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"Wait, your husband?" Jordan nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Yeah, I know, it's a bit surreal." Michael shook his head in disbelief.
"You've always had a thing for footballers."
Jordan raised an eyebrow, caught off guard by the comment. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Michael smirked playfully. "Come on, Jordan. You can't tell me you don't see the pattern. First, there was Marcus Rashford back in the day—remember? And now Kylian Mbappé? You sure know how to pick them."
Jordan felt a flash of irritation but masked it with a smile. "Funny, I don't remember football being a requirement in the dating criteria."
Michael shrugged, his grin widening. "I'm just saying. You've got good taste."
Rolling her eyes, Jordan laughed, brushing off the subtle jab. "So, what are you doing here? You're not exactly the football type."
"Oh, I'm here with some friends. I found a new job. I am starting in a week, and I'm really excited about it."
He mentioned he had just returned to Paris after spending a few years abroad working with a major law firm. "I will be working at Clientel, it's a great firm"
Jordan's heart skipped a beat. "Really? That's fantastic! We'll be working together then!"
"Yeah, it'll be nice to have a familiar face around. I've missed our study sessions," he said with a teasing grin, recalling the late nights they spent poring over case law and assignments.
She laughed, remembering how he'd always had a crush on her back then, though they had only ever been friends. "Those were some intense nights! But it'll be great to catch up again. I hope you're ready for the real world—it's a lot different from school."
"I'm up for the challenge," he replied confidently, but there was a flicker of something more in his eyes, an intensity that made Jordan slightly self-conscious.
"Have you been to many matches?" she asked, trying to steer the conversation away from any lingering feelings.
"Not really. I've been so wrapped up in work. But I couldn't miss Kylian's first game of the season," he said, glancing back toward the field. "He's a phenomenal player."
"Yes, he is," Jordan replied proudly, glancing at Kylian, who was now in the huddle with his teammates. "I'm really excited for him."
They talked for a while, reminiscing about law school and sharing stories about their careers. Jordan felt a mix of nostalgia and excitement as she watched Michael speak passionately about his plans for their firm. There was a spark between them that felt both thrilling and a little unsettling.
As the match began, Jordan found herself cheering for Kylian, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Michael. She could sense the connection they once had, even if it was just in the warmth of their conversation.
Halfway through the game, the tension mounted as Kylian made a break down the field, darting past defenders with incredible speed. Jordan's heart raced as she watched him score a stunning goal, the stadium erupting in cheers. She felt a rush of adrenaline, pride swelling within her.
As the crowd celebrated, she turned to share the moment with Michael, only to find him watching her with a contemplative expression. "You two look happy together," he said, his tone sincere but laced with something unspoken.
"We are," Jordan replied, her voice firm yet gentle. "I love him."
"I can see that," he said, a hint of wistfulness in his eyes. "He's lucky to have you."
Jordan felt a pang of sympathy for Michael. She remembered his lover for her, how sweet and sincere he had been during their studies, but she also felt the undeniable connection she had with Kylian, one that had only deepened since they married. "It's just nice to see you again," she added, hoping to lighten the moment.
"Yeah, it is," he said, his smile returning. "Let's make sure to catch up more often when we start at the firm. It'll be good to have a friend to lean on."
"Definitely," Jordan agreed, her heart still slightly unsettled by the unexpected encounter but grateful for their friendship.
As the match continued, Jordan cheered for Kylian, her heart swelling with pride and love. She knew that their bond was strong, and despite the ghosts of the past lingering in the air, her future was firmly with her husband. And as the final whistle blew, signaling a triumphant victory for Kylian and his team, she couldn't help but feel that everything was right in her world.
