Soohee
Soohee woke up with a start, the sound of her alarm blaring in her ears. She glanced at the clock and her eyes widened in panic. She was late! She jumped out of bed, quickly throwing on her clothes and grabbing her bag. There was no time for breakfast. She had to get to her first class, and it just so happened to be literature with Mr. Jungwon.
She dashed out of the house, barely remembering to lock the door behind her. As she sprinted towards the university, she could feel the gnawing hunger in her stomach. But there was no time to worry about that now. She had to make it to class before she was marked tardy.
Bursting through the classroom door, she saw Jungwon mid-sentence, his eyes widening slightly at her sudden entrance. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Yang," she panted, trying to catch her breath. "I overslept."
Jungwon nodded, a small smile playing at his lips. "It's alright, Choi Soohee. Please, take your seat."
Soohee quickly found an empty seat near the back, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. She tried to focus on the lecture, but the combination of her rushed morning and empty stomach made it difficult.
Jungwon noticed her distracted state, her usual attentiveness replaced by a pale face and drooping eyes. He continued the class, but his concern for Soohee grew as the minutes passed. When the bell finally rang, signaling the end of the period, students began packing up their things and filing out.
"Soohee," Jungwon called out as she shuffled towards the door.
She stopped and turned around, her heart skipping a beat. "Yes, Mr. Yang?"
Jungwon opened his mouth to ask her to stay back, but before he could speak, Soohee's stomach let out a loud, unmistakable grumble. Her eyes widened in horror, her face turning a deep shade of red. "I... I didn't have time for breakfast," she stammered, mortified.
Jungwon chuckled softly, finding her embarrassment endearing. "I see. Well, that explains a lot. You should take care of yourself, Soohee. It's hard to focus on an empty stomach."
She nodded quickly, too embarrassed to say much. "I will. I'm sorry."
He gave her a kind smile. "No need to apologize. Just make sure you eat something before class next time, alright?"
Soohee managed a small smile in return. "I will, thank you."
As she turned to leave, Jungwon added, "And Soohee?"
She looked back at him, her heart fluttering. "Yes?"
"Take care of yourself. Your health is important."
She nodded again, her smile growing a little wider. "I will. Thank you, Mr. Yang."
Leaving the classroom, Soohee felt a mix of relief and lingering embarrassment. Her friends were waiting for her outside.
