"WHEN I WAS 8 YEARS OLD, the summer before 3rd grade my parents starting fighting. it got really bad. my mom had more of a temper, and she would hit my dad. she would go out and come home too drunk to remember anything." blair started, her palms getting clammy.

"my sister was 2 at the time, so she obviously has no memory of this. but then after christmas, they divorced and my dad left us and moved back to japan. he fought for custody of addy and i, but my mom made him seem like the alcoholic and made him lose."

"im pretty sure she did to to have one last win against him, not at all because she wanted us. my mom is a big party girl, and she would be out late and come home like every other day. and when she was home she was drunk and couldn't take care of me and my sister. it was hard, if you don't remember that's why i was out of school for a month that year, i was too busy taking care of my sister."

"by the time i was 10 i was taking care of addy more than i was taking care of myself. i got really skinny because i was making sure she ate and not caring about myself. my mom spent all the child support on herself so i had nothing to use to provide for me and my sister. i quit cheer, since i needed to be home when she got off the bus and cheer ended 2 hours after that."

"i told irene, and she told her mom. irene's mom is like everything to me. she would buy groceries every weekend, and would even bring meals for me and my sister to eat."

"i gained my weight back, and slowly i got better. i was back in cheer. when addy was 7 she got an interest for soccer, so my dad created a bank account for me and started to send my money and he still does to this day. i use it to pay for groceries, my cheer stuff, addy's soccer stuff and equipment. it was all fine."

blair rubbed her hands on her shirt, forgetting it was dylan's.

"just as i thought everything was getting better my mom started to actually come home. she would get mad at me for having the house dirty, and she started to...she started hitting me and yelling at me and punching me, and my poor sister had to see that. she would make sure i cleaned the whole house while she drank and smoked outside."

"it just got worse and worse, and then in 7th grade she got a boyfriend and would bring him home."

"7th grade." dylan thought, the year he ruined everything between them, and probably ruined her already torn life.

"and they would hit me together, and they tried to go for my sister but i would take the fall for her instead. life became hard again, and my mom would just come home drunk even more than usual. she would crash on the couch, then the next morning she was gone."
