The following days were a whirlwind of mixed signals and stolen glances. Izuku found himself hyperaware of Bakugou's presence. His heart would skip a beat whenever their eyes met across the classroom, and the fiery blond's usual scowl seemed less menacing, almost... shy?
During training exercises, their connection flowed more smoothly than ever. They moved in perfect harmony, their attacks a blur of coordinated power. Yet, a strange tension hung in the air. Bakugou, usually quick with his brash remarks, seemed hesitant to speak, and Izuku, tongue-tied whenever Bakugou was near, struggled to form coherent sentences. One evening, determined to break the awkward silence, Izuku invited Bakugou to a study session in the library. The blond hesitated, then with a mumbled grunt, agreed. They settled at a secluded table, textbooks open, but neither of them seemed focused on the material.
Izuku stole a glance at Bakugou. The blond
was chewing on the end of his pencil, his crimson eyes fixed on a page that likely held no meaning for him. Izuku felt a surge of what he tentatively identified as... nervousness. "Hey, Kacchan," he blurted out, surprising himself with the nickname. The familiar word hung in the air, heavy with unspoken emotions. Bakugou flinched, then glared at him. "What, Deku?" His voice, however, lacked its usual scowl. "Um..." Izuku stammered, his cheeks burning. "I just... wanted to say thanks. For, you know, trusting me with the connection stuff."A flicker of surprise crossed Bakugou's face. He looked away, mumbling something unintelligible. Taking a deep breath, Izuku plunged forward. "The truth is," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper, "it's not just about the connection. I... I actually enjoy spending time with you, Kacchan." The library fell silent. Izuku held his breath, waiting for Bakugou's reaction. Slowly, the blond turned his head, his crimson eyes wide with a mix of surprise and... something else, something Izuku couldn't quite decipher.
Before Bakugou could respond, the library doors burst open, revealing Uraraka and a flustered Kirishima. "Hey, guys," Uraraka said, oblivious to the tension in the air. "We were wondering if you wanted to-"
"Not now, Round Face!" Bakugou snapped, his voice unusually gruff. He turned back to Izuku, his cheeks flushed a deep red. "We were... busy." His voice trailed off, a sheepish look replacing his usual scowl. The arrival of their friends broke the spell, leaving a sweet taste of unspoken emotions in its wake. As they joined their classmates, a new understanding flickered between Izuku and Bakugou. Their feelings, though still unsaid, hung in the air, a spark waiting to be ignited. Later that night, unable to sleep, Izuku found himself drawn, to the rooftop? As he gazed at the star-dusted sky, a familiar figure joined him. Bakugou leaned against the railing, his gaze mirroring Izuku's.
"Couldn't sleep either, huh, Deku?" Bakugou said, his voice gruff but laced with a hint of amusement.Izuku chuckled nervously. "No, not really. There's just... a lot on my mind." A comfortable silence settled between them, punctuated only by the distant hum of the city below. Emboldened by the quiet solitude, Izuku took a chance. "Katsuki," he started, his voice barely a whisper. "About what I said earlier..." Bakugou cut him off, a surprising warmth in his voice. "Yeah, about that... maybe you're not so bad yourself, Deku." He hesitated, then continued, his voice barely above a murmur, "Except when you call me Kacchan. That's still weird." Bakugo would never admit, he actually kinda liked the nickname.
A laugh bubbled up in Izuku's chest. The tension from earlier eased, replaced by a comfortable warmth. They stood side-by-side, bathed in the soft glow of the moon, a new chapter of their relationship slowly unfolding beneath the vast expanse of the night sky. The future remained uncertain, but one thing was clear – their bond, forged in battle and tested by vulnerability, had blossomed into something more. And as they gazed at the stars, a silent promise hung in the air – a promise to explore this newfound feeling, together.
