Caleb

Today was the hiking trip

I was scared

Scared that I would find Milo dead somewhere.

The three of us stood on the edges of the entrance to the woods. The entire camp was going hiking, the staff, even Mr Williams. Everyone had already gone in, luckily they weren't too far.

"I'm staying at the camp, that's all I could think of." Said Milo, taking a small step back, his eyes looking between the two of us.

"It's better than nothing. I'll stay with you, just in case Mr Axel realizes your not with the group and comes back looking for you." I grab Milo's hand and intertwined our fingers tightly before looking at Damien.

"Damien can you cover for us?" I ask him, he's hesitant. "If you don't want too, I can-"

"No, it's not that. I don't want to leave either of you. What if Axel does come back and get to you before we— before I get back?" He runs a hand through his hair, "I don't want to find you guys dead, or missing."

"That won't happen, ok?" I reassure him with a smile pulling my lips.

"Ok, just please stay safe."

"You too."

He places a kiss on my lips, then on Milo's before he quickly ran into the woods to catch up with the group. I turn to Milo, who takes a deep breath.

I pull his hand to my lip and kiss the back of his hand."I'll protect you, I promise."

"I know."

He dragged me to Mr Axel's cabin, trying to see if the door was locked. By some miracle it was and we both walked in. There was a black duffle bag on the bed. We both walked over to the bag and unzipped it. My eyes widened. The phones were in the bag.

Immediately we grab phones and try to turn them on, but the ones we picked up were dead.
We tried to turn them on, but they were completely dead.

The door opened, and just as I thought, Mr Axel came back. Im guessing he realizes we weren't with the group. Quickly I stepped in front of Milo defensively.

"I knew you wouldn't go with them after reading what was in my book." Mr Axel smirked as he shut the door behind him, subconsciously I balled my fist up. "Since no one is around, I guess I could get rid of both of you." The man stepped forward, cracking his knuckles.

There was no was no way we could take out a grown man. There had to be another option than fight. He walks closer and before he could reach for either of us I kick him in his groin. Quickly making him fall to his knees. Milo swipes the duffle bag and we both sprint to our cabin and locks the door.

Opening the duffle bag, Milo pours all the phones out of the bags. One by one we try to turn on each phone but we can't, until one phone turns on, it's at 5 percent. I click on the emergency button and dial 9-1-1.

"Hello, this is 9-1-1, what is your emergency?"

"Please help at Camp Horizon, a man is-"

The door starts being banged on, and Mr Axel starts shouting at us to unlock the door. I hold Milo's hand tighter as I watch the door handle rapidly jiggle.

"A man is trying to kill us."

"What is your name?"

"I'm Caleb, and the guy with me is Milo."

"Ok, I'm sending the police your way, stay on the phone." There is only 4 percent left, so we won't be on the phone long.

"The police are on their way?" I hear Mr Axel from outside of the door. He must've heard the woman on the phone. He then starts howling with laughter. This man is insane.

"Since they're coming, might as well give them a good reason to come." I then heard something being slid across the floor before something was propped against the door. I walk over to the door and look out the peephole to see a chair was set up against the door in a way where we wouldn't be able to open it, even if we unlocked the door.

Why was he locking us inside?

Stepped back from the peephole confused. What was he planning to do?

"What's he doing?" Milo asked.

"He just propped a chair against our door so we can't leave. I don't know why." I responded confusedly, I sat down with my back against the door. Milo walked over and joined me as he rested his head against my shoulder.

"I'm sorry that you were dragged into this." He muttered quietly.

"Don't apologize. It's not your fault ok?" I press a kiss to his forehead. I didn't want him apologizing for something he couldn't control. It wasn't his fault Mr Axel was trying to kill us.

Milo starts to cough, which I would've disregarded if he wasn't coughing so much. Then I started excessively coughing and the room started to get hot out of nowhere. I smelt smoke in the air and realized that something was on fire. Standing up, I look out the peephole again, and see that the cabin was on fire along with the grass.

"He set our fucking cabin on fire." I began to cough more, breathing quickly became harder by the second.

"Wha-*cough* the fu-fuck!?" He darted up and I moved so he could look out the peephole, his eyes wide.

The fire started to become visible from the inside of our cabin. I kept trying to open the door by repeatedly pulling and pushing. The smoke was insufferable. Soon Milo fell to the floor, aggressively choking and I dropped down to his aid.

"I-I can't *cough* b-breath-" I watched him start violently coughing. I didn't know what to do. We couldn't get out, the air couldn't get in.
I tried not panicking, but that was out the window a long time ago. The fire was only getting closer until we burned down with this place.

Was this it? Was this how we were gonna go out?

"Aren't you having fun?" Axel shouted blissfully.

"O-open the*cough* damn*cough* door!" I screamed as I banged on the door. Not to my surprise he didn't, but he laughed even more.

"Nope, If I'm going down. So are you."

I looked at Milo, tears filled his eyes and some ran down his skin. "I-I don't wanna die. Are we going to die?"

I didn't want to answer his question, I was to scared to admit it, even though I knew the answer. All I could do was pull him closer.

"I-I don't know." I closed my eyes, before I could say anything else I felt him go limp.

"M-*cough* Milo!" I started to shake him, but it was no use. I felt tears forming in my own eyes.
Please don't die yet, just wait a little long until the police arrive.

Wait!

I pull my shirt off and place it against my nose before breathing in. Why the hell didn't I think about this when he was awake. This wasn't gonna last me long, but at least until someone arrives hopefully.

A/N:

I was told that you can breathe in cloth when there is a fire, so if that is incorrect, I apologize.
