Damien

"Well campers, today we will have a canoeing race." A woman with pale skin announced as she pulled her blonde hair into a ponytail.

I yawn

It's definitely too early to be canoeing. Or anything for that matter, we just got done with breakfast.

"Only 3-4 people in a canoe. So pick your partners carefully." She exclaimed excitedly.

Perfect, I can be in a group with Brayden and Brandon. And I better hurry because I see Mia and Leah basically sprinting over to me.

Both duo's make it over to me. And they fight over whose group I'm gonna be in. Which was obvious I was gonna pick Brandon and Brayden, but the universe clearly had other plans.

"Unless you're Damien Hudson, Milo Browne, and Caleb Winston." She announces lastly and I swear I wanted to strangle her.

"What! Why do I have to be paired with them?" I complained, but in the corner of my eye I saw Cameron glaring at me. Did he scare me? No. But he's done some shit that makes me think he doesn't give a shit if he killed me. And I value my life.

"Because, the camp director said to always pair you three together. You guys need to get along."

Very smart people

Put the guys who fought on the first day of camp together. Especially while canoeing. Like one of us won't attempt to drown one another.

"Whoever wins gets to get their phone for one day."

What

I need to get my fucking phone!

"As much as I don't like you two, I want my phone." I state as I look at two, who seem also annoyed that the three of us are paired together.

"The feeling is neutral."

"I... don't like water that much." Caleb stated hesitantly.

"You need it to live dumbass." I roll my eyes.

"And don't you bath? How can you be afraid of something you feel daily?" Milo adds in, not making eye contact with him.

"No, what if I drown."

"Can your ass not swim?"

"... No."

"Of course you can't. Good thing we'll have life jackets so don't piss yourself." I say as I head down to the dock, they follow closely behind.

We put our life jackets on and get in the canoe.

"On your marts, get set, go!" She shouts and we quickly begin to paddle. We start off in the lead, well we're neck and neck with two other canoes.

"Paddle faster!" Brandon shouts. I look over to him and see that he's not even paddling, but is just sitting in the front with his paddle sitting on the side of him. Which pisses me off that he's yelling at everyone to do the work instead of actually helping.

"Bastard." I grumble as I stare at him. I might be an asshole, but I at least pull my weight.

"Hey! What the hell are you doing!" Another guy shouts, getting my attention once again. Looking over I see the canoe full of 4 girl pushing and shoving their canoe while giggling. Which made the two canoe's slow down, and now we're in the lead.

I needed my fucking phone.

I look behind me and see that the canoe was flipped over and all the people on that was canoe in the water protesting.

So they're tipping over fucking canoe's

And they were gaining on us. They had four people paddling, and we only had three. Within a few minutes they caught up with us and i knew they were going to try something. But it was unexpected. I thought they were gonna tip the canoe over, but instead they managed to grab Caleb's paddle and threw it in the water and continued to paddle.

"Get the paddle! Hurry they're getting away."

"Im not getting in the water."

"You're not gonna fucking drown. You have a life jacket, now stop being a bitch and get the damn paddle." I stand and glare down at him. He then stand and glares at me back.

"Im not getting that damn paddle."

"Im getting my fucking phone. So you better get that damn paddle before I-"

"Guys calm down, we aren't going to get anywhere if you guy's are fucking fighting." Milo groaned, rolling his eyes. We ignored him, too angry to give him a second thought.

"If you want it so bad, go it yourself."

"I'm not the one who let a girl snatch my paddle."

"Im not getting it!"

"Yes the fuck you you are!" I shout before pushing him out the canoe, and he landed in the water. Little did I know that I would regret it.

He started to splash in the water and I scoffed.
He was being dramatic.

"Damien what is your problem?" Milo shouts as he stands, "I don't like him as much as you but he doesn't like deep water."

"He needs to get over that fear. It's not like he's gonna drown, he has a life jacket."

I realize it went silent, so I thought he went to get the paddle and stopped complaining and dramatically splashing around. But once I looked in the water I didn't see him and I went into a panic.

"W-Where is he?" I question.

"What are you talking about he's right.... there?" He looks at the lake water and fails to find him.

I frantically look around to only see his life jacket casually floating, it broke somehow. "Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!"

I take off my life jacket off and without hesitation I dive into the water and I find him slowly sinking. His eye closed as the last bit of air escapes his lungs.

I swim and managed to grab him by the wrist before swiming back up to the surface. I hold him to my side as I gasp for air.

"Hand him here!" Milo shouts before grabbing him from me and pulling him onto the boat. I managed to get back onto the boat and I watch Milo procecced to do the worst CPR I've ever seen.

"Move, let me do it." I say and he quickly moves. I begin to pressure again his chest repeatedly and he doesn't move. Not a single inch. And I feel my heart sink to my ass.

Oh god, oh shit, oh god, oh shit.

Don't you dare fucking die on me.

I squeezed his nose before opening his mouth and pressing my lips to his before blowing air into his mouth. And I repeatedly do it. After several blows he begins to cough up water, jolting up. I pat on his back, helping him get all the water in his lungs out.

I cling onto him like he was the last drop of water in the world and I dying of dehydration.

After he's done coughing and gasping for air, his breath begins to slow. And I feel my heartbeat also begin to slow.

"How are you feeling." Milo ask, sitting in front of Caleb, his face finally calming down.

"I-he..." His breath trembles, "Why?!" He shoved me.

"Im so fucking sorry. I didn't know that the jacket was broken!" I protest, "What I did was wrong, and I promise to my soul to never to that again."

"... Lets just go back."

And we swim back. Obviously we lost but we told them what the girls on that canoe did and they ended up in hells of trouble.

We didn't tell about him almost drowning. Caleb didn't want us to say anything, and honestly nor did I. The spike of worry and panic that raced through me when he wouldn't wake up. Though I hate that guy but it actually terrified me that he almost died because of me.
