JANIE WILSON WAS AN ORPHAN ever since both her parents died in a car crash when she was seven. Her dad was Sam and Sarah Wilson's brother, and now she lived with Sarah and sometimes Sam when he was not busy. And she was also Sev's best friend.

"Sev!" Janie said, seeing her walk with Bucky. She ran up, hugging Sev very tightly.

When she pulled back, she saw the littered bruises on Sev's face. She immediately got defensive. "Who were you fighting, Sev? Is someone picking on you? Because I swear to god—"

"No! I'm fine, Janie...I fell..." she lied terribly.

"Fell my ass," Janie scoffed. She looked at Bucky, who was watching the whole thing go down. "Hi, Mr. Barnes."

"Just call me Bucky, Janie."

"Okay, Bucky," Janie corrected herself, giving him a respectful nod before turning back to Sev. "Hey, Sev, do you want to come with me? I have like no friends here, so you kinda have to come with me."

Sev glanced at Bucky, silently asking for permission.

Bucky sighed, looking at Sev with a mixture of concern and affection. "Okay, but be careful and stay out of trouble, alright?"

"Thanks, Dad," Sev said, giving him a quick hug.

Janie grabbed Sev's hand and started leading her away. "Come on, I know just the place. You're gonna love it."

They walked through the streets, talking about everything and nothing until they arrived at a cozy little diner. Janie pushed the door open, the bell above it jingling as they entered.

"They have the best milkshakes here," Janie claimed, leading Sev to a booth by the window. "Trust me, you need this after everything."

Sev smiled, feeling a bit lighter already. "Alright, you convinced me."

When the waitress came over, they both ordered their milkshakes—Janie getting chocolate and Sev opting for strawberry. As they waited, Janie noticed Sev pulling out a wad of cash to pay.

"Jeez, Sev, are you selling drugs or something?" Janie joked, her eyes wide.

Sev laughed, shaking her head. "No, nothing like that. My dad gets a bunch of money from the government for helping defeat Thanos or whatever, and he kinda just gives me money. Says it's for whatever I need."

Janie leaned back in her seat, impressed. "Damn, must be nice. My uncle Sam's always telling me I have to earn my keep. Though, he does spoil me every now and then."

"Yeah, it's nice," Sev admitted, taking a sip of her water. "But it doesn't change much, you know? Still gotta deal with everything else."

Janie nodded, understanding. "Yeah, I get that. Money can't fix everything. But hey, at least we have each other, right?"

Sev smiled, feeling grateful for her friend. "Yeah, at least we have each other."

Their milkshakes arrived, and they dug in with enthusiasm. The rich, creamy flavors were a welcome distraction from their troubles.

"So, what's been going on with you?" Sev asked, genuinely curious about her friend's life.

Janie shrugged. "You know, the usual. Trying to keep up with school, helping Aunt Sarah around the house. Uncle Sam's been busy with missions, but he always checks in. Oh, and I've been practicing my soccer skills. Thinking of trying out for the school team."
