Painkillers.

Damien's eyes darted towards me after Skyler mentioned my injury. I didn't need them all looking at me, especially not him, since he's the one that set my body ablaze when his fingers gripped into my skin. His hands were so warm and firm as his hands wrapped perfectly around me.

I didn't expect this kind of reaction. What is this reaction anyway, we aren't close and I'm pretty sure he'd rather stand in a bear trap than touch me like that so why is my body flushed? Why is my heart racing?

I will admit, he has some attractive qualities. He is determined, protective and scary when he needs to be and not to mention, gorgeous. He's become more attractive to me over time. For a man in the apocalypse, he's kept in good shape, with surprisingly nice hair. Mine however is starting to tangle.

It could be that he's attractive or maybe it's because I've never been touched like that before, aside from when I was in high school and a guy I was friends with would wrap his hand around my waist when we'd talk in a group to our other friends. I never really understood why and I never asked.

My eyes lifted to Kieran who was looking down at my leg while Daz spoke about something I wasn't listening to. His eyes met mine and flicked to Damien before returning to me. Something brewed in the depths of his eyes that I couldn't place before he started to walk away with Skyler.

Damien looked at me before he nodded and I assumed he was asking something, I don't know but I nodded anyway and started to follow the others. I turned back to see Bleu making his way over to me. I tilted my head in the direction of Daz "stay here boy, let us know if anyone comes" he walks away, planting himself next to Daz's feet by the back of the van, panting slightly as the sunrise drenched his face in a warm glow. His eyes were almost closed from the sun shining in his eyes and he'd blink as Daz stroked him. Somehow, I felt like he was safe with Daz and the children, even though I knew he would protect them, not the other way around.

I followed Damien back to the building. My leg ached when I walked as if I were grinding my leg through a cheese grater. Pain shooting up my leg with every step. Once I hobbled to the staircase, I placed my hand on the charred wooden railing for support but I noticed it crumbling under my hand and decided to let it go. Damien appeared behind me "the others are doing down here, are you right to go up?" he asked me. His eyes dancing along my skin as he analysed my form.

I felt heat rising in my cheeks again at the attention. His eyes trailing over my body in such a slow way, it made me wonder if he was checking over my injury or checking me out. With his hooded eyes, I honestly couldn't tell.

"I can go up" I said, slowly making my way up the stairs. He walked behind me, waiting on my every step. He wasn't rushing me and he didn't seem bothered by my sluggish movements. He just looked over the balcony in the distance, checking for crazy men maybe or just thinking as he waited.

After what felt like an eternity of agony, I made it to the top. My eyes dropped instantly to the body infront of me. It was charred, his clothes burned to nothing and his skin so black that it almost looked like coal. The hair burned away from his scalp and all that remained was red and black flesh. "They just left him here" I stated, my eyes glued to the mess as my mind tried desperately to comprehend the act. You wouldn't be able to tell it was once a man that lay before me. "They were his friend and they set him on fire and left him to die"

Damien turned back towards me, he must have passed me on the stairs when I stopped at the top. "They weren't friends Samuel" I looked up at him "they were furniture" I blinked as his words swirled around in my mind "furniture?"
