"Happy anniversary sweetheart." This time, it was Mia's turn to hand Charlotte a beautiful black rose. The brunette smiled when she realised that the thorns had been removed. Sometimes, how much Mia loved her took her breath away, she'd never experienced anything so intense.

"I have something for you too." The way that Mia's eyes widened with anticipation made her giggle slightly as she reached into her bag. After rummaging around she produced a little box, wrapped neatly in luxurious burgundy paper and topped with a silver bow. She watched excitedly as Mia carefully unwrapped her gift, she'd been so excited to give it to her for weeks. The red head opened the box and immediately started to inspect its contents.

"They're long distance bracelets. The rose gold one is for me and the black and silver one is for you. When you're away, if you're thinking of me, you just press the little button." At this point, Charlotte grabbed her bracelet and pressed on the pendant, causing Mia's bracelet to light up immediately. "See" she beamed "and I can do the same. Yours has a little moon pendant and mine has a little sun." Charlotte was just so adorable sometimes it made Mia want to cry.

Mia was so happy with her gift but it was making her heart ache nonetheless. She didn't want to smother Charlotte or overwhelm her, so she knew that for now at least, their arrangement worked for them. She slipped her bracelet on as Charlotte did the same. "I love it sweetheart, thank you. You know I'm always thinking of you right? Your light will never be off." Charlotte laughed before kissing Mia gently on her forehead "that's fine by me." She wrapped her arms around Mia's waist before adding "I love you Mia."

"I love you too sweetheart." Mia knew that she'd spend the rest of her life trying and failing to truly articulate how she felt about Charlotte. The brunette had restored her faith in love and her belief in herself. For so many years Mia had felt unlovable and lost but now, she'd been found by the most beautiful soul that she'd ever known.

As Mia pulled Charlotte close to her chest, she smirked as she asked "do you prefer this anniversary? First date is slightly less awkward than the day you got me fired I'm guessing?" She refrained from laughing when Charlotte blushed furiously and shouted "AMELIA." The red head knew that Charlotte still wasn't proud of the stunt that she'd pulled, but Mia would always adore that moment between them. Realistically, she knew that she'd fallen for Charlotte the moment she'd met her, but the strength that she'd displayed that day had been what finally made Mia love her completely.

Every day, she loved her a little bit more than the last. Someday soon, Mia would be home for good and their lives would intertwine perfectly, because they were simply meant to be.

In the meantime, thanks to Charlottes gift they could light up each other's lives no matter how many miles stood between them.
