Darius stood by the school gates, Conrad, Milliana, and Elvira at his sides, his usual composed demeanor fraying at the edges. He had noticed. Olivia hadn't been in class for some days, and his and the rest of their friends phones lay silent, devoid of her usual annoying yet spirited messages.
"Not here today too?" he muttered under his breath, thinking of how she was never one to miss a day of class without a valid reason. The worry in his chest grew with each passing student, none of them sporting her vibrant hue.
A hand on his shoulder caught his attention as he turned to face Conrad, who looked in a certain direction, his eyes filled with a tinge of hope. Turning in the appointed direction, Darius' eyes focus on the Eden school bus that Olivia's sister rides on. All four teens walked forward, catching up to Anya just as she and Becky were about to head in.
"Hey, Mini Forger." Hearing a familiar voice, Anya's head whips around to face Darius and the rest of the crew. "Ah! You're the second son!" Dismissing her name for him, Darius' eyes bore into her soul, making her take a step back. "Your sister isn't in school again? Is she sick or something?" Anya hesitates, unsure of how much she should share with him.
Honestly speaking, Anya doesn't even know if she could call her sister 'okay' and she obviously can't share what really happened. . With a slight nod, she decides to keep it simple and replies, "Just a cold." Elvira shares a doubtful look with Milliana as she looks back at Anya, who avoids their gaze.
"Just a cold? But why hasn't she contacted us then?" Anya panicked, racking her brain for anything. "Uhm...her phone...her phone...was e-eaten? Yeah! My new dog! He ate her phone!"
Elvira remained silent as her mind track back to a few days ago, the memories of running for their lives, fighting recklessly together and finally the injured cat and Olivia fainting. Her brows furrowed as she replayed that memory over and over again.
'Did she not wake up after she fainted? Actually on that day, she was panicked looking for her little sister right?' Anya flinches at the deduction and kept her gaze down-casted, a feeling of guilt looming over her. Catching onto her behavior, Elvira's eyes squinted in suspicion. 'Now that I think about it. That was so not a situation you'd normally find yourself in,' her eyes bore straight onto the mini pinkette. 'Just what does her family get into. Should I tell the police? No they were there so they already know, so then... should I tell these guys...?'
She turned to her friends, and there was no hiding their anxiousness or fear they felt for the wellbeing of their friend. Elvira let out a sigh as she runs a hand down her face in frustration. 'I'm worried. We're worried. I was there, so I should say something...But do I have the right to do that...?'
Anya's eyes stick to anything but the group in front of her afraid she may say something she's not supposed to. "Via-Nee's phone was eaten so... she couldn't talk - so just wait a little bit, Papa will get her another one!" The group raises an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced, but decides to let it go as Anya and Becky hastily make their leave.
