The sky was pitch black with the stars glistening and dancing around the sky. The backyard lights of Kate Martins house brightened up the backyard area while all Kate family and family friends were inside the house, Kate sat out by her pool with her feet in the cool water with a plastic cup filled with soda in her hand slowly sipping it down.
She just stared out at the stars watching them. It was Nika and Kate's last night together before her and her family moved to America, leaving Kate alone in Croatia without her best friend. Nika walked up to the sliding glass doors of Kate's back door and saw her sitting in the edge of the pool.
She opened the door slowly trying not to alert Kate that she had came outside. Nika snuck up behind Kate and gently pushing her as Kate jumped.
"BOO!" Nika yelled giggling after Kate had turned around looking at Nika in terror.
"You scared the absolute shit out of me niks!" Kate said placing her hand on her heart. Nika sat down next to Kate placing her feet in the pool and looking up at the dark sky.
"You ready for when I have to leave?" Nika said looking at Kate. Kate looked down and swallowed hard looking down at the pool water trying to keep herself from tearing up.
"I don't think I'll ever be. I mean your plane takes off in 30 minutes." Kate mumbled. Nika put her arm around Kate as she leaned into Nika's touch, making her tears start pouring down Kate's face.
"I know..." Nika said. The silence was comforting to the two girls trying to spend the last few minutes with each other before one going to a completely different country.
"Nika honey, we have to leave to catch our plane on time." Nika's mom said as she was leaning out of the sliding glass down. Nika nodded slightly before her mom gave her a small smile and shut the door, Kate and Nika stood up facing each other before Nika tackling her in a hug.
"I'm going to miss you so much...." Kate whispered into Nika's ear while in the hug. Nika squeezed Kate harder trying to make herself not cry and be strong for Kate, but Nika's been hiding something from Kate. She has a major crush on her and this was her only chance to say something before she left her.
