"Ugh, could this be ANY worse?!" Kate said trying her best to maneuver around with crutches, Nika was in the shower while Kate stayed in the living room.
Kate finally sat down on the couch after cussing out her crutches in Croatian every time they got stuck on something, Kate sighed having a huge weight on her chest thinking about last night.
Around midnight in Iowa when she was supposed to be asleep in Nika's arms instead she was texting her family in Croatia, her family stated that Kate's youngest brother (pretend she does) got into a car accident while riding his bike with him friends to downtown area and is in critical condition.
Kate promised that she would come home for a little, but hadn't told anyone except Coach Bluder who said to take her time to be with her family but did this take a toll on her.
"Kate, what's wrong?" A voice said behind Kate, she saw her girlfriend standing in the doorframe confused as all hell.
"Um.." Kate said softly, Nika came over and sat on the couch still confused. "My brother got into a car accident last night and is in critical condition.."
Nika felt her heart drop hearing that coming out of Kate's mouth, she quickly grabbed Kate into a soft hug hearing Kate sob into Nika's hoodie.
"You're obviously going back home right?" Nika asked softly looking at her girlfriend, she could tell Kate looked brokenhearted.
"Yeah, my flights tonight.." Kate softly said making Nika shocked.
"TON- ok, ok." Nika said taking a deep breath in and letting it out, Kate knew she probably should have said something earlier.
"I'm coming with you." Nika said firmly to Kate.
"No, Nika. You can't." Kate mumbled out, Nika eyebrows furrowed confused.
"Yes, I can. I can take-" Kate cut off Nika by putting her hand up to stop her.
"No, tonight's the only flight I could get until 4 weeks from now and there's not more seats." Kate said looking up at Nika softly.
"But, I wanna be there for your family and you.." Nika said, Kate held onto Nika face rubbing her cheeks softly.
"The best thing you can do is stay here, I'll be ok." Kate said, everything in Nika's mind told her to go but then the other side said no stay here.
