Prologue
It was an ordinary day at Beverly Hills. The sun was shining on the top of people's heads, and the weather was hot and hard to breath. The residents responded to the hotness by staying outside in order to get some fresh air.
A boy, age of eleven, sighed softly as he put a book he brought along down on the grass. He then lay down on his back, his eyes staring up at the clear sky above and blew some air out from his mouth.
All around was quiet enough for him to hear faint voices made by the other kids. So boring, he thought. The others were doing something fun and he's just... here. Alone, too.
He turned his face slightly to look at his book; it was still open, revealing the page he was on earlier. Seeing it made the boy feel even worse.
"Everyone must remember all the lines," the boy recalled what he teacher said before school came to an end, "you must not embarrass your class." he could remember himself gulped his saliva down in fear as the drama teacher glared at him the moment he said the word embarrassed.
The boy was pretty certain that his teacher meant the say that he mustn't embarrass him than the class itself, since he was the only enthusiastic one of all. However, that certainty didn't make him feel any better. His school's open house will be in only a couple of days and he still can't remember a single line no matter how much he tries to concentrate.
Long weekend and all, that one hell of a teacher still force him to remember all his lines by heart. Instead of doing something, anything, more interesting, he have to stuck by himself like this.
It's not like he have a choice, after all, he doesn't want to make a fool of himself on the stage.
What if I forget some lines? What if I forget all the lines? What if they laugh? What if they throw things at me? What if they chase me out? What if... What if...
All the bad possibilities were poured into the young brain, causing a few tears to fall from both corners of the boy's blue eyes. He wasn't even bothered to wept them away, he was tired and simply didn't care anymore.
*rustling*
The boy got up quick as he heard a foreign noise behind him. A couple of bushes moved slightly, revealing a small frame.
"Wha," her voice was too loud for her body, "I've never seen this place before. Is this a secret hide out?"
The girl stepped over the bushes with no problem with her short legs. She walked around the small area in excitement.
The boy frowned as his eyes followed the girl as she looked down the hill, where most of the houses and shops were built. He then looked at the clothes the girl was wearing, they were both white, well, it should've once been so if only they didn't covered in mud. What has she been doing? He wanted to ask but decided not to.
And yes, this is a secret place. When he's here, no one, whether or not they are on the hill, can see him. Their eyes weren't well enough to notice a little clear area in the middle of small-sized trees and bushes. This place was like a place the boy could take a break, from his responsibility and reality all the same.
Therefore, seeing another human here was strange for him.
The boy frowned some more as the girl sat down next to him. The girl saw the face he made, but it didn't seem to bother her. She gave him a smile, and it only get wider as she spotted the book.
"Your school's showing a play?" She asked him, her voice was cheerful. Too so for the boy.
He didn't answer, only gave her a slight nod. He hoped that the girl would leave him alone. Is she a lost child? The last thing the boy wanted right now was to babysit a girl he hardly knew.
"Are you a prince? Are you a dragon?" The girl asked some more. The boy raised his eyebrow. The bullies at Sam's café can't be a fantasy performance. It's basically the most ordinary play in the history of mankind, which was part of the reason why the boy didn't even want to be a part of it at the first place.
The boy decided to answer because the girl was beginning to annoy him, couldn't she took the hint that he doesn't welcome her? "No," his voice irritated.
"Then what are you?" The girl asked more, the boy was so tempted to face-slapped himself. She won't be leaving anytime soon, looks like.
"I'm Charlie." The boy replied. The girl cocked her head to a side in curiosity. Her lips formed an o shape. She looks like a cat in the boy's opinion.
"Who's that?"
The boy rolled his eyes, "Never mind," he brushed her off, he doesn't even know why he's talking to her in the first place, "he's not even that important."
The girl's smile disappeared and a grimace was beginning to form. "Why did you talk about your person like that?" She made herself sounds like she doesn't really understand and she needs to know, "it doesn't matter if you're playing a king or a tree, every part is important. I'm very, very, very sure that your character is important too."
The boy was taken back slightly at the sudden lecture. Oddly, he doesn't feel ashamed that he was righted by a person much younger than himself, a girl too at that. The girl was right with every word.
"I can't even remember the lines," the boy complained.
"Then say it over and over," the girl said, pushing the book into the boy quite forcefully, "until you can't say it anymore, until you feel like you were born to said them, until you feel like you are Charlie."
The boy looked at the girl; she was beginning to interest the boy. She was acting childish a minute ago and now she's talking to him like an adult.
Her face was so full of determination and hope, like she believed in him. Her dark blue eyes weren't avoiding his lighter ones, as if she was trying to prove to him that she wasn't trying to provoke the older kid.
There were tons of questions the boy wanted to shoot at the girl, but he couldn't possibly get all of them out. He only asked for her name, and hope that he would see her again.
"I'm Leo." That smile was the most beautiful.
The boy thought then, that if he was about to play as a prince, it would be pretty cool if the girl could play a princess for him.
