Chapter Four

Continuing their trek to find Jasper, Ivy carefully studied her surroundings. Her finger tips brushed across each trees she passed, feeling the soft moss on her skin. Seeing all that was alive and green never ceased to amaze her. She couldn't imagine ever going back to the cold, mechanical metal cage that she once lived in. It made Ivy wonder, once they were able to contact the Ark and inform them that Earth is survivable, what would happen then?

Bellamy's prediction of things going back to the way they were rattled in her mind. Jaha claimed that they'd be pardoned, but would they still go back to the bottom of the food chain, no matter what? Could they be treated as equals, or were they just going to be the prisoners that they were before?

She had always wanted to be one of the people on the Ark who studied the Earth, not checking the radiation levels, but actually studying it. She wanted to learn everything there is about nature, and if there were any other animals besides two-headed deer. She remembered once reading about domesticated animals called dogs, there were all kinds of them. Even though she knew it was impossible, Ivy had always wanted one; it didn't even matter what kind.

But now that they were on Earth, her wish only grew. To be one of the people to venture out in search of the secrets the Earth hid in its greenery. To discover everything all over again, that was her dream. If the Ark came down and took away that dream, how could Ivy live then?

Bellamy watches from afar as she moves through the tress, stopping every once in a while to observe a bush. Whether she stopped for clues or out of her own curiosity, he doesn't know. Either way, he makes sure she's always in view and slows down when she falls behind. Ivy has always been able to handle herself, but he never considered that as a reason to not look out for her anyways when they considered each other to be as close as family.

The thought gives him an idea. Clarke and Finn had been walking together on their own ever since Finn had joined them on their rescue mission. That left Wells, Murphy, Bellamy, and Ivy to themselves. Bellamy can sense that Wells had been irked by the space walker's arrival, figuring that he could've used the time alone with Clarke to earn her forgiveness back. Luckily for Bellamy, he knows exactly how to use all this drama to his advantage.

"Guess we got more in common than meets the eye, huh?" Bellamy calls over to the chancellor's son, smirking to himself.

"We have nothing in common." Wells deadpans, even more pissed off that he was stuck with two guys that he knew hated his guts just for who he was related to. Ivy's been a good buffer so far, but she's hardly even paying attention to anything else going on around her. She's looking for clues, but getting lost in the tress at the same time.

Quirking his brow, Bellamy continued to test the boy. "No? We both came down here to protect someone we love." Wells looks visibly uncomfortable by how even Bellamy can detect his affection for his friend. Bellamy's quick to reassure him. "Your secret's safe with me. Of course, for you, it's worse. With Finn around, Clarke doesn't even see you. It's like you're not even here."
