Courthouse

We stopped at the courthouse, and the different creatures surrounded me.

Okay, this should be easy. I tell myself to just get it over with.

The back door was opened abruptly.

"Come on," Desmond says.

Gesturing me to get out. I jump out, landing on the ground roughly on the balls of my feet.

I followed behind Edward. Desmond was behind me. Hum, I'd say dramatic, but nah, probably not. I was pretty fast for a human. We walked through the huge double doors.

I was shoved into a bench by Edward.

"Listen, your girlfriend might like to be tossed around, but not me. Do it again, and you will be sorry." I threatened.

He smirks at me. "What exactly are you going to do in the cuffs?" He teased me.

Making me laugh "Well, why don't you understand? Uncuff me and find out." I suggested.

Just as he was going to respond.

The second set of double doors opens.

"Adelaide Cohens," a man says outside the double doors, staring at us.

"Come on," Desmond says, lightly pulling my arm to help me up.

I yank my hand from his touch.

"I said not touch me!" I shouted as we walked in.
Multiple people are in here, probably waiting to get tired, just like me.

"Because you are human, you got moved up to the top of the list." The man who opened the doors said,

"How kind," I say sarcastically.

I was shoved to the stand.

The vampire is clearly very old; you can tell by the shire aura he gives off.

"Do you know why you are here?" He asked me

"Um, please enlighten me, your honor," I say not wanting to incriminate myself.

"You are a suspected vandal on our city walls." He tells me.

"Vandal?" I ask him carefully, playing innocent.

"Yes." He says his thought is obvious.

"Forgive me, your honor. I didn't finish my schooling after my parents died. May you explain what you are talking about." I continue to play on the fact I didn't have a complete human education.

He flips through my file.

"I see, did you spray paint on the walls?" He asks me, trying to change his vocabulary he had no idea I could understand.

"No," I say to him confidently.

"I'm sure she was her hands hand painted on them," Edward says, trying to contradict me.

"You are right, I did have paint on my hands, but from a painting I've been working on at my house, you know what they call it—acrylic," I tell him, looking at him.

"Enforcer Edward, did you really arrest this human because you thought she did something?" The judge says, glaring at Edward.

"Well, your honor, even if we aren't talking about the spray painting, she still had prohibited items for her species on her." He says he is trying to take the heat off himself.

"Is that true?" The judge asks me.

"I'm not going to deny it. I've just been having a hard time after my parents passed away." I say trying to pull on the heartstrings of these dead characters.

"What prohibited items?" The judge asked Edward a question.

"She had alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana." He replied

"Is that true?" He asked me

"Yes, Your Honor," I said this would be maybe community service or something I want sure of.
He flips through my file.

"Where's her record of being tested?" He asked them.

"Your honor, she wasn't," Desmond says this time.

"I think she might have a mate she cannot be charmed," Desmond says.

"She cannot be charmed?" He asks shocked.
"No, your honor," Desmond replied

"Bring her here." He tells them before I am softly pulled to the judge. He looks like he is thinking for a minute.

His eyes flash red. Before ridiculously waving his hand.

"You will tell me if you vandalized the building." He says

"Is this supposed to be a party trick or something?" I ask him.

"I already told you I didn't." I scoffed.

"Take her into the marriage office; they have the device to test everyone in there. Let me know what it says. If she does have a mate, give them her file and let them deal with her behavior. If not, come back to me, and I'll sentence her." The judge says slightly taken back.

"Yes, your honor." Both Desmond and Edward say in unison.

They start to drag me through the building.
My stomach is doing flips
They push the door open.

"Sorry, King Sebastian, but we were told to come to see you by the judge, a human who is 24 and has never been tested before," Desmond says, peeking his head in.

"Come in." A deep voice called out.

We walk in, and I see a man with a woman sitting on his lap. He is cleaning off the machine, not looking up at us as the woman kisses his neck.

Gross, I think get a room. Swallowing my need to throw up.
He looks up and drops the machine. Standing up abruptly, the girl fell off his lap.

"Why is she in cuffs? He asked angrily.

What's his deal?

He doesn't wait for a reply; he just says, "Uncuff her now!"

"Yes, sir," Desmond says quickly, un-cuffing me.

I bring my red, sore wrist in front of me and rub my wrists, soothing my wrists.

The girl finally got off the floor.

"What the hell, Sebastian?!" The girl shouts at him, brushing off her clothes.

He ignores her "Hand me her file"

They hand the file to him.

He opens it. "Adelaide," my name leaves his lips. A slight shiver runs down my spine.

He flips through my file. His facial expressions seem to get more and more angry as he reads my infractions.

His jaw clenches. The girl looks down at the file. Looking over it.

"What do you think you are doing, Anna?" He asked her

"Just seeing what have you so upset." She said, teasing him.

"Well, Miss Troublemaker  is my mate." He says, looking at her.

"What?" Both Desmond and Edward say.

"Have you fed her when you had her? I can hear her stomach growling." Sebastian asked them with even more rage.

"We tried to, but she didn't want to eat." They stuttered. I took this as a perfect example to run.
I ran quickly, closing the double doors behind me and a took seat nearby, shoving it into handles, and took off running.

I knew it wouldn't hold them for long.

I felt my heart beating out of my chest.

"Hey! Where are you going?" An elf enforcer calls out.

"Just forgot something," I say running.

"Stop running." He shouts out, not chasing me. I see a crowd of people I blend in and run outside, my legs pumping quickly. I ran into the woods, the branches crushed under my feet, but if I didn't care, I needed to create distance. I was far from my house, so I needed to get going.
