My eyes un doubt widen but I try to play it off.
"Note? Witch?" what are you talking about?" I try an ask as neutral as possible.Just then the waiter is close by with some food on their tray.
And in a moment of shire desperation, I trip them as unnoticeable as possible. The food goes everywhere mostly on me.
This breaks his thoughts thankfully immediately he looks at me assessing me and the the waiter.
"What happened? Are you okay," he asks as he helps the young teenage boy off the ground."Im going to run to the bathroom," I say as wipe the goods off me.
He nods in response.
I let out a breath of relief walk causally to the bathroom and immediately pulled out the note which I hoped would contain something to break this bond.
I quickly duck into the bathroom, the sound of Sebastian's voice fading behind me. As he talks to the waiter the food a mess on him too. The fluorescent lights flickers overhead as I lean against the cool, tiled wall, my heart racing from both the encounter and the guilt of the moment. My fingers fumble in my pocket for the note, and when I finally pull it out, the crumpled paper feels like my only possible lifeline.
Unfolding it, I hold my breath as I read the elegant handwriting: The key lies in the blood moon's rise. Leave and never return. My mind races as I try to decipher the cryptic message. Blood moon? Was that supposed to mean something to me? I can't help but think it sounds like something straight out of a fairy tale—a warning wrapped in mystery.
I crumble the note again and flush it down the toilet, my mind still spinning. What did it mean? How could I use this information to my advantage? I needed to break free of whatever Sebastian thought he was doing and what he thought id give him, and I wouldn't let some bond dictate my life. Not now, not ever.
I take a deep breath and I splash cold water on my face, trying to clear my head. I glance at my reflection in the mirror, the determination in my eyes battling with the tiredness was swirling inside me. I knew I needed to confront Sebastian, but not until I was ready.
I was exhausted trying to fight against this bind as it took every last bit of strength in me to fight.
After a moment I gather my thoughts, I make my way back to the dining area, the air thick with the lingering scent of food and tension. I even my breathing and I see Sebastian lean back in his seat, his eyes scan the room, and when they land on me, a mixture of relief and annoyance crosses his face.
"There you are," he says, his tone light as his assess me. "I was starting to worry."
"Just needed a moment," I reply as I force a casualness I don't feel. I sit back down, adjusting my posture to exude confidence, despite the storm brewing inside me.
"Everything okay?" he asks as his expression shifts slightly and concern breaks through his usual smirk.
"Yes," I insist, keeping my voice steady.
"I don't smell it on you anymore. I guess you got rid of it." he says as he leans close to me.
I swallow hard."I have no idea what you are talking about." I say as I try to sound casual.
"Do you peg me for a fool Adelaide?" He asks as he crosses his arms of his chest the simple act somehow makes him look stronger and more intimidating than he already was.
"It doesn't even matter now, does it?" I ask as I match his gesture.
His eyes immediately move to my chest typical just typical.
But here I am just moments ago doing the same thing.
I just wasn't so obvious.
It seemed like he didn't mind staring at me in public he preferred it. The possessive look in his eyes had always been there since the moment he saw me.
He replies, his voice steady. "you don't understand Witches, they can put you in danger, and not everything is what it seems."
I take a moment to process this new information. "And you think you're the only one who can protect me? You're the one who's been marking me like a trophy." I snap with anger.
"Adelaide," he says as his voice softens slightly, "this isn't just about possession. It's about survival too. You need to trust me. Everything I have done is to keep you safe."
"Trust?" I scoff as I roll my eyes defensively. "You want me to trust you after you've forced this bond on me?"
"I'm not forcing you. I'm giving you the option to embrace it or fight it, all I did was mark you which I had every right to do. After that it's up to you." he says and his expression honest. "But either way, you need to know what you're dealing with. I can help you navigate this, but only if you let me."
"What's the catch?" I ask as I look at him carefully. "What do you get out of this?"
He meets my eyes. "What I want is simple: I want you to understand the truth of our connection. I want you to see that we're stronger together. Let's complete the bond.
"And if I refuse to ever complete the bond?" I challenge as I was desperate to find a chink in his armor.
"I know that you will come around, you might be strong but you are not stronger than our bond. It will just take time. You are human you don't understand any of this.," he replies, a hint of frustration creeping into his voice. "Remember what I said we complete the bond once we talk about matters regarding the human rebellion and see if I can meet or partially meet your demands."
I feel the weight of his words wash over me. I know I have a choice to make. I can either fight this bond tooth and nail, or I can take a leap of faith and trust him, at least for now. Help the humans but the cost of my own freedom.
"Let's say I'm willing to hear you out," I say, choosing my words carefully. "What do we do next?"
His mouth forms a small satisfied smile, and I can't help but feel a mix of irritation and desire. " well first you and I can discuss what you want and I'll see what I can do. Then we will complete the bond once you are happy with everything. No more fighting the bond. I want you to know I care about you and your kind. But I still have to make sure they are protected as well. Supernaturals can easily kill a human."
"Great," I reply as sarcasm drips from me. "Completing the bond." I say hoping for annoyed.
I was but feel down there was a part of me who wanted just that.
He chuckles and his demeanor lightens. "It's not all bad. I promise to make it worth your while."
