Learning how to swim Pt 2 (P.J.)

A few weeks had passed since Y/n had met Percy for the first time. They were also a week into summer. Y/n got invited many times to hang out at the lake with her friends and siblings but she could never agree.
Although she wasn't included in the fun, she had started hanging out with Percy more. He was very kind to her and extremely respectful. She grew to like him more and more every day. He would go out of his way to make sure she was okay, to say hi, or even just to wave at her. She felt special when she was near him and she never wanted that feeling to go away.

Y/n was walking around camp with Annabeth when Percy noticed them. He rushed over, tripping in the process. Y/n laughed at first, along with Annabeth, but walked over soon after to help him up and make sure he wasn't hurt. He got a few scrapes and bumps, definitely some bruises, but other than that he was fine. As Percy said himself, "Nothing a big strong man can't handle." Annabeth sighed, raising her palm to her forehead. Y/n laughed at Percy's confidence. He ended up joining them on their walk. "Hey Percy, aren't you a great swimmer?" Annabeth asked suddenly. Uh oh.. Y/n thought, hoping her best friend would drop the topic.
With how much she liked Percy now, she doubted she could spend hours  everyday with him in the water. Especially when her mom is Aphrodite. She knew her mom would do anything to make this love story happen or she'd add tragedy and drama. Besides, if any of her siblings caught her with him, they'd spread so many rumors. She loved her siblings, but sometimes they could get a bit carried away.

"Of course I am Annabeth. Why?" Percy responded, looking over at her. Please don't..  Y/n begged internally. "Well, Y/n was needing someone to help her swim better. Everyone else is busy, but you seem to have time!" Annabeth told him, making Y/n want to hide in a hole and never come out. The worst part was that Annabeth acted like Y/n could swim already but needed to get better, when in reality, Y/n couldn't swim at all! "Oh, sure. That sounds like fun. It gives me and Y/n more time to hang out, one on one." He said, seeming to perk up at the alone time with Y/n idea. "Great! You guys should start right now! I'll see ya guys later." Annabeth replied before sprinting away from them.
Oh my gods.. Now what?!  Y/n panicked. "Uhm, thanks for uh- agreeing to um- h-help me Percy..." Percy smiled, staring into her eyes. He seemed to look into her eyes a lot when they were alone. Y/n could never keep the eye contact going for long before getting too awkward or embarrassed. "Let's get our bathing suits on and then we'll meet at the dock, kay?" Percy asked, breaking the silence. Y/n nodded and walked towards her cabin.

"Hey Y/n, sorry I took so long. My cabin's not the cleanest.." Percy greeted his friend and sat down beside her. Y/n smiled nervously. "It's okay. I also kinda forgot where we said to meet.." She laughed a bit to brush it off. Percy smiled back, way less awkwardly than her. "Well, nobody's in the water right now. Let's go start!" He said, grabbing Y/n's hand and pulling her towards the lake. Y/n tripped over a rock, causing her to take Percy down with her. "Oww-" Y/n complained. "Are you okay?!" Percy asked in a worried tone. Y/n nodded. "I think I'll live. I just-" Until now, Y/n hadn't noticed the position they were in. I'm laying on top of Percy Jackson. THE PERCY JACKSON. She felt like fainting. WHY MOTHER? She cursed in her head. Percy chuckled when he noticed the extra person on him, as Y/n was blushing a ton. He was also blushing, but she couldn't see it since she wasn't looking up. "Here." Percy slowly stood up and held out his hand. Y/n placed her hand in his and pushed herself back onto her wobbly legs. "Thanks." She mumbled. "No problem!" Percy said. They had learned their lesson, now walking to the lake.

When Y/n stepped into the water, she shivered at the cold temperature. She wasn't used to going too far into the water, so as she went deeper, she started worrying. Percy noticed how she started walking slower and more cautiously. He also noticed the goosebumps on her skin. He reached out for her hand to reassure her. She gladly held his hand and instantly felt much better. He was somehow warm, even in the cold water.
They stood still in the water for a few minutes to let Y/n get used to it. She tried to focus on learning, and not who was teaching her. "Is this too deep for you? We can go back a little bit." Percy asked. "Uh- yeah. Maybe just a little bit." Y/n agreed. They slowly made their way back, still holding hands. Y/n felt much safer in the area they stopped in. "This is much better, thanks Percy." She thanked him. "No problem! Now, can you float on your back yet?" He questioned. She shook her head. "Okay, do you trust me?" Percy asked, reminding Y/n of the scene from Aladdin. "Yes." She replied, confused. Percy smiled. "Okay, I'm going to just put my hands on your back and I'll slowly lift you up. You'll be on your back. Okay?" He explained. Y/n had no idea what he said, so she just nodded. "If you get too worried, just hold onto me by my shoulders or neck or something. And remember, I won't let anything happen to you." He added. She smiled at him, before nodding once more.

Percy placed his hands on Y/n's back, one higher than the other. Slowly, he pulled her towards him, turned her body sideways so that her hip faced him, and set her down on top of the water. "Is this fine?" He asked. "So far-" Y/n shrieked, putting her arms around Percy's neck and hugging him tight. Her legs wrapped around his waist. "Y/n, what's wrong? What happened?" He looked at her worriedly. Her breathing was heavy, she was clinging to him tightly, and he didn't know what to do. "Why did you let go?!" She asked. "You were going to float!" He told her, confused why this was a problem. "You didn't warn me! I thought I was gonna drown!" She yelled. Ohhhh. Percy thought. "I'm sorry for scaring you Y/n. I didn't realize how that could have scared you." He apologized, hugging her back. He placed his right hand on her head, stroking her hair, the other on her back, rubbing slowly up and down to relax her. His voice made a "shhhhhh" sound. She slowly calmed down, but she didn't want to let go.

"Percy. I don't think I can do this. And this isn't just about me not believing in myself, but I don't have the energy or dedication to swim. It's probably because of my ADHD. I have the inattentive type so I want to do things but can't make myself. I'm sorry for wasting your time.." Y/n explained. Percy sighed, a little sad and disappointed. Not because of Y/n giving up, but because now he wouldn't have an excuse to talk and hang out with her often. "It's okay. Don't worry about it. I won't try to push it or anything." He said. "But just remember, I'm always here if you're ready to try." He smiled slightly. "Thanks Percy." She spoke quietly, holding onto him still. "Should we get out? We can hang out in my cabin for a bit. I brought the Hunger Games movies this summer and Chiron is slowly installing TVs into the cabins. Mine just got put in." Percy tried to act casual, but he was really nervous. " Is this a hang out or a date?" Y/n asked, ignoring her terrified thoughts about him rejecting her. "Oh- u-uhm.. it doesn't have to be a date... I- I mean.. UNLESS you wanted to!" He stuttered. Y/n laughed at his nervousness. "Of course I do silly. Wow, Annabeth's right. You are a seaweed brain." She smirked. "Hey, you take that back right now!" He shouted. Y/n began laughing more, trying to sound like an evil character. "Or what, seaweed brain?" She asked, rubbing in the name. "Or I'll drop you into the water." He s̶t̶a̶t̶e̶d̶  threatened. Y/n paused her laughter. "You wouldn't dare." She said, the smirk fading. "Oh wouldn't I?" He asked. "Then I'll cancel our date." She s̶t̶a̶t̶e̶d̶  threatened. "Fine! Let's just go back now." He said. "Ha, I win!" Y/n laughed evilly.

(I'm so sorry I didn't have her actually swim. I just don't know how to swim so I couldn't really explain any of the things I found online properly. I don't even know if the floating stuff made any sense. Thank you to those who tried to explain to me and help me! Also, 30k reads already??? Tysm guys!)
