Y/n couldn't swim. She had tried multiple times in her life to learn the important survival skill called swimming, but she never managed to get it right. Now, even at 12 years old, she couldn't go very far in the water due to her worry of drowning or sinking. Recently, she wanted to start learning how to swim really badly. It was just about to turn into summer and she knew her other siblings from the Aphrodite cabin would want to show off their cute bikinis. She didn't want to be left out of the fun.

"Annabeth, don't you know how to swim?" Y/n asked. Annabeth shook her head. "Even if I did, I don't have time to help you right now. I'm sorry Y/n." Y/n sighed. "Nobody else will teach me. I've asked everyone I know!" Annabeth stared into the lake. "I might know someone who could help you." Y/n looked over to her intelligent, blonde friend. "Who?" Annabeth smiled and turned to face Y/n. "Percy Jackson." Y/n blinked at her response."Isn't that the Poseidon kid? Annabeth, he's a child of the big 3! No way would he help me." Annabeth chuckled lightly, placing her hand on her friend's shoulder. "Don't worry Y/n. He owes me. I helped him on his quest, remember?" Y/n looked up at the lake, the shimmery waves, the way the water splashed and glistened. She tilted her head down a bit, spotting some naiads sitting just under the shoreline. When they noticed her staring, they each smiled and waved at her. A smile formed on her face as she pulled her hand up to wave back. "Y/n?"  "Huh? Sorry, what did you say again?" Annabeth sighed. "Annie, you can't really blame me for not focusing. We both have ADHD." She looked at Annabeth, noticing how her brows furrowed when she was thinking, her grey eyes focused on her hands, the way her nose scrunched up when she was annoyed with Y/n. Eventually, Annabeth calmed herself down. "I know." She said. Y/n smiled at Annabeth.

A few days had passed since Annabeth and Y/n had that conversation. Y/n began to think she'd never learn in time for summer. She sat at the end of the dock, kicking her feet back and forth slowly in the water. She didn't know why, but she felt like diving into the water right then and there. That wouldn't be smart though because she wouldn't be able to get back out.  Y/n closed her eyes and sighed.

"Hello?" Someone said. Y/n quickly opened her eyes and turned to face the person who had spoke. "Are you talking to me?" She asked, surprised and confused. The person, or, the boy, nodded. "What's your name?" He asked, making his way over to her. "Uh- I'm um-       Y- Y/n..?" She replied as he sat down next to her. Why am I stuttering so much?  She wondered, turning her head to look back at the water. "That's a cool name. I'm Percy. Percy Jackson." Oh. He was Percy. Did Annabeth send him?  "So what did you uh- need?" Y/n asked after a minute of silence. "Oh, I didn't- I just thought you looked sorta.. lonely." He replied, fidgeting with his bruised hands. Y/n looked down at her own hands, noticing the lack of scars and bruises. She started kicking her feet in the water again. She hadn't realized how long they both stayed silent for. All she knew was that it was a peaceful and comfortable silence.

"So uhm..."  Percy started. Y/n's body jumped a bit, forgetting he was there. "Who's your parent?" He asked, looking over at Y/n to study her face. He noticed how beautiful she looked. "My mom is Aphrodite." She replied, not looking back at him. "Oh, cool! No wonder you're so pretty." Y/n blushed at his compliment. Did he just say I'm pretty?!  Percy was also blushing a lot. He quickly looked away from her, suddenly finding the sky very interesting. "Thanks.." She mumbled. Percy smiled, looking back at Y/n. She accidentally looked back at him. That was when she realized how close their faces were. She could see how intensely his eyes were focused on hers. The odd thing was, while Y/n was nervous about this, Percy seemed completely fine. Infact, he acted pretty confident. "You are really pretty Y/n." He said, ignoring anything around them. In that moment, Y/n realized she already liked Percy. A lot.
