"The food was good, wasn't it?" Mom asked Dad, seeking his approval.
"Who made it after all, my daughter," Dad replied with a smile, looking at me with pride.
I was removing my shoes, trying to slip away unnoticed.
Bhai had already gone upstairs, and Ruhi was busy posting today's pictures on Instagram.
But my mom's attention was focused on me, and she wasn't happy.
"Ye aapki beti, dekha aaj kitni ajeeb harkate kar rahi thi mehmaanon ke saamne. Naak katwa di isne to" Mom started her lecture, narrowing her eyes at me.

I rolled my eyes, trying to deflect her criticism. "Are maa, aapki naak to apni jagah par hi to hai, kaha kati hai?"

Ruhi, sensing the tension, quickly intervened. "Good night, mom and dad," she said and went upstairs.
I followed suit, trying to escape the lecture. "Good night," I said and went upstairs.
But I could still hear my mom complaining to my dad about us.
"Kuch achi baatein kuch sikhana jaati hu or ye dono bhaag jaati he, kya hoga inka aage jakar"
