Outer Banks, Figure-Eight

Days had passed since the incident but somehow, Rafe Cameron being beaten up by JJ to the point where he had been taken to the hospital was the only thing people were talking about. During summer on the Outer Banks, nothing interesting ever happened, so for once that people had something to talk about, they enjoyed it. The thing is, they didn't only spread information, but also fake news, in which JJ was in jail, or even in which Rafe Cameron was in a coma.

I had spent my time hanging out with my friends on the Cut, going to the beach and on the marsh, but as days went by, I started to realize I couldn't remain jobless. Even though Ward Cameron had made sure I wouldn't work on Figure-Eight anymore, I was sure Marco wouldn't refuse to hire me again. I had worked for him for such a long time and I had been his favorite employee all this time, so why wouldn't he want me?

JJ had told me he'd talk to Mike Carrera, so that maybe I'd have a job at the Wreck, but since I had not heard anything about this ever since, I assumed I had no chance. I walked along the streets of Figure-Eight, motivation leading me to the Country-Club, where I'd for sure have to negotiate.

I walked towards the restaurant and once I arrived, I fixed my hair and made my way towards my former boss who was cleaning some dishes behind the counter. I had never seen him washing dishes, which was a good point, he needed employees. I faced the counter and placed my phone on it, before crossing my arms over my chest.

"Hi," I voiced, making him look up from the plate he was holding.

"Margot, hey, what are you doing here?" he asked me, before looking around, as if he was making sure no one would see me here.

I frowned. "I wanted to talk to you. You probably know what happened with my brother and Rafe, so Ward fired me, and now I have no job. Do you think I could work here again? Like I used to?" I asked him.

"Ward asked me not to, I'm sorry," he sighed.

I was about to respond but I saw Rafe and his dealer Barry approaching me, walking towards the counter with smirks on their faces. Rafe had a few cuts on his face, but his bruises had already disappeared and he didn't seem traumatized. As they arrived near me, I sighed and came to the realization that I would be alone against two Kooks, even three with Marco.

"What's up Pogue? after what happened you're still on my side of the island?" his hoarse voice trailed and it was easy guessing that he was high.

"Give me a break Rafe, I'm not here for you, and you're high so I'm not talking to you," I snapped.

He grabbed my arm and held it so tightly that I bit my lower lip not to cry out in pain in the middle of the restaurant. "I warned you Pogue. No more special treatment for you, it's gonna be eye for eye, tooth for tooth," he threatened near my ear, before letting go of my hurt wrist.
