Outer Banks, the beach
July 15th, 2020
7:43pmThe Pogues and I arrived at the beach, joining the crowd of partying teenagers, their laughs mingling with the crashing of waves and the sound of music blasting through the speakers. I had not worked for Ward Cameron since the other night since he said I had worked a lot and needed rest, but I knew I'd work on the next day, so I planned on enjoying my free evening with my friends.
Keggers were always a fun way to relax, meet new people and forget about our daily problems. Pope and I sat together, watching the huge waves crashing on the shore, appreciating the soft and warm breeze on our skins. He gave me a beer and I thanked him before opening the can and drinking a few sips, which relaxed all of my muscles.
JJ was flirting with a girl, Kiara playing ukulele with a groups of girls, and John B playing beer pong, but we all spotted the same thing simultaneously. It happened all the time, but somehow we always forgot and wished it wouldn't happen again, but it did. A group of Kooks walked towards us, probably motivated to ruin the party, because even though they always pretended they wanted to have fun with us, apparently they had a more violent way to have fun than we did.
We all shared eye contact and reunited, our smiles disappearing from our faces as they got closer. "What's wrong with them?" Kiara asked, annoyed.
"We're not gonna let them win this time. Y'all remember how it ended up last summer, right?" JJ groaned.
"Maybe they'll be nice this time," I shrugged, but since they all threw me death stares, I corrected myself. "Okay, sorry"
Topper, Kelce and Rafe approached us, as their friends started to occupy the rest of the beach, talking to other Pogues, probably already annoying them. "What's up guys?" Kelce asked, smirking.
"I think you're on the wrong side of the island," John B told them, crossing his hands over his chest. "Go back to Figure-Eight"
Kie and I stared at each other briefly because we knew how it would end, just like always, with all of the boys punching each other, and unfortunately, the Pogues rarely won. "Or we could have some fun here with you, what do you guys think about this?" Rafe smirked.
"No thank you," Kiara replied.
"I was actually not talking to you, but to my boys," he said, staring at her with disdain.
JJ didn't wait a second more, he grabbed Rafe and punched him, but when Kelce defended his friend and threw my brother on the sand, the fight started to expand. John B pushed Rafe off him, and Kiara tried to help the boys as much as she could, but she knew just like me that she shouldn't even try to interfere, it was hopeless. When I saw JJ being dragged down and choked by Topper, I ran to him, panicked.
"JJ!" I screamed.
Someone grabbed my waist and pulled me back, and even though I tried to fight against the tight grip, I couldn't. I looked at who was holding me and my eyes met Rafe's, making me somehow even more upset. I tried to kick or punch him but I didn't manage to and he finally released his grip around me when I was far enough from the others, making me stumble.
