Outer Banks, somewhere
July 25th, 2020
10:49pmI ran to the back of the house, in the garden, where I knew the distribution board was, and touched all of the switches that I saw, hoping for one to function and turn the lights on. I struggled for a few seconds but as I saw the inside of the house slightly lightening up, I assumed it was luckily still working. I had no idea who even paid for this electricity and how the panel still functioned, but it didn't matter, I quickly got back inside, since it was raining really badly.
Once I reached the living room, I looked at the man I had just hurt and made my way towards him, only to discover his nose was bleeding.
"Rafe, I'm so sorry," I kept on apologizing, before sitting next to him on the couch.
The furnitures were covered with dust and looked extremely old, but dust wouldn't kill me and I didn't feel like spending my whole night standing there. "Just give me more tissues please," he asked, pointing at my bag.
I gave him some tissues and stared at him, as he kept on holding his right nostril, in obvious pain. He was drenched in water, and now even in blood, which had stained his polo, but even in this physical state, he looked handsome, denying it would have been a lie. I tried to look away and make conversation so the atmosphere wouldn't remain so tense.
"What were you doing here? You scared me," I stated.
"I was doing the same thing as you, hiding from the storm," he sighed. "My car broke down and I had nowhere else to go"
"Let me help," I grabbed some tissues and pressed it on his nose because I could see that he wasn't applying enough pressure on his bleeding nostril.
I expected him to take my hand off him but instead he let myself take care of the wound I had created, without a word. We remained silent for a few seconds, until his bleeding stopped and his nose looked cleaner. I stared at him for a few seconds, and as the thunder rumbled in the sky, goosebumps spread all over my skin.
"Are you seriously scared of the storm?" Rafe mocked me, noticing that I was shivering.
"I'm not, I'm just cold," I clarified, pointing at my dripping wet clothes and hair.
"Take off your clothes," he stated.
My cheeks must have gone red and my eyes widened as I heard his unexpected words. I stared at him and frowned. "Excuse me?" I asked.
"It's not like I've never seen a girl in a bathing suit before. Your wet clothes won't help you warming up," he simply told me.
"I'll be colder without clothes on," I replied.
"I must have something in my bag for you, open it," he stated.
I nodded and grabbed his bag, before looking through it, trying to ignore the half full plastic bag filled with cocaine and the opened and empty condom wrappers. I grabbed a grey polo which smelled a little bit like sweat and placed the bag back where it was, already disgusted enough by the sight of what a boy may have considered normal.
