Outer Banks, the marsh

3:32pm"Can you stop complaining? Please?" I rolled my eyes at Rafe, who was sitting on the cooler, as I took my shirt off.
He stared at me, a smirk spreading across his face as his eyes trailed over my body—not very discreetly. "Yeah, I might be able to now," he chuckled.
I threw my shirt at his face, and he pulled me against him, planting kisses on my skin despite still holding the fishing rod. The movement disturbed the water, scaring the fish, so I sighed and grabbed the rod, pulling away from his embrace as he kept one arm wrapped around my waist.
"Rafe, be careful, you're scaring the fish away," I warned him.
"Would it be so terrible? Come on, let's go home, so I can show you a bigger fish-" he began.
"Rafe! Gross! " I cut him off, pushing him away for good.
He burst into laughter and I sat next to him, watching the marsh surrounding us. We were just so lucky that we got to grow up here, surrounded by so many beautiful landscapes in which we had spent the times of our lives.
Days had passed since Barry had left the island, and my life had rarely been so easy. My friends had started school again, but they still spent time with me, Rafe had kept me company and had showed me more affection than I would ever have expected. I had spent many days at home and even though I didn't become my father's best friend, he had not hurt JJ or me.
His deal with the rich lady had went through and he had earned a lot of money, more than I could ever earn with shifts at the Wreck, but since Barry had left the island, he got to keep all of it. I had been around Ward a few times and he had been surprisingly welcoming and friendly to me.
I had convinced Rafe to spend a Pogue day with me since I had spent enough Kook time with him, whether it was by his pool, on his yacht or even in fancy restaurants. It had been hard convincing him but I knew he couldn't say no to me when I had a pretty smile on my lips.
"Why are you smiling?" Rafe asked me.
"Because you're becoming a Pogue," I joked, nudging him softly.
"You wish," he laughed.
He pushed me gently but since I didn't expect it, I dropped the fishing rod and it broke on the boat's floor. I sighed and grabbed it, showing Rafe what he had just done.
"Rafe! It's broken," I sighed.
He cupped my cheeks and pressed gentle kisses on my lips, as if the rod wasn't expensive. I didn't kiss him back so he chuckled and kept kissing my face, before staring at me.
"I'll buy you a hundred more my love," he chuckled against my lips.
