The next day at school, I finally talked to the triplets with the intention of having an actual conversation.
"Guys" I said weakly, coming up behind them in the school yard. The three of them turned around and looked at me. "Can we talk?" I asked. "Of course" Nick told me. Chris nodded to what Nick said and Matt rolled his eyes. "You finally done being a baby about some stupid shit?" Matt asked. I look at him blankly until he got uncomfortable and stopped.
The first bell rang but we all ignored it. "Here Viv, let's skip homeroom and we'll talk. Where do you wanna go?" Nick asked. I shrugged and Chris suggested we go to the van and drive away from the school so teachers wouldn't see us. The three of us agreed and Matt sighed. We all got in the van and started talking.
"I'm sorry for being so distant these past few weeks. There just a lot going on and I don't know what to do" I explain.
"Keep going" Matt swirled his hand. Chris smacked his hand down and gave me an apologetic look.
"So basically, the day you guys dropped me off home, the last time we really talked, I went home to find out that my little sister ran away. We still can't find her or get ahold of her. We've filed reports, called her friends, done everything we can in this situation and she's still missing" I begin to tear up.
Nick gives me a tight hug and I cry in his arms. Chris climbs to the back seat and joins the hug. Matt just watched from the drivers seat.
"It's okay Vivianne" Chris rubs my shoulder. "We're here for you. You don't need to worry. It's okay" Nick whispers. "It's not okay! She missing! We can find her and I don't know if she'll ever be back" I bawl.
I feel a third person patting my shoulder and I look up to see Matt. He looks visibly uncomfortable and embarrassed of what he said before. "Sorry" he whispered. I look up at him and nod. He didn't know what was going on, it's not his fault.
After my crying session in the van, we drove back down the block to school and went in for first period.
"Yo, where were you guys in homeroom" Nate says running up to Chris and Nick. "We ran a little late" Nick covered for me. "Hi Nate" I smile, trying to distract from the redness of my eyes. "Oh, hi Vivianne" he waved and smiled. I walked to my next class with Chris.
The first half of the day went by and now it was lunch.
Nick and I walked into the lunchroom with his arm around my shoulders. We sat down at our usual table and got there before anyone else since our class before this was right across the hall. In a matter of time, Chris, Matt, Nate, Alahna and Chloe were all sat with us.
We all had some good conversations and everyone seemed to be happy I was back to my old self. I'm so glad they aren't mad at me. I didn't tell them why I was acting how I was and they all understood that I was ready to open up yet. I'm so lucky to have such good friends.
"Yo loser, pay attention" Matt slapped my shoulder. "Huh?" I say snapping back to reality (Eminem reference???). "Truth or Dare?" Chloe repeated. "Oh uh...truth" I said. "Is it true that," she giggled, "you like Matt?"
"What?" the both of us said at the same time. "Ew of course I don't like Matt" I scrunched my nose. "Thank god" he sighed. I kicked his leg under the table and he kicked me back. "Ow Matt I didn't kick you that hard. Now I get another one" I whined. "Fuck no Vivi, it's not my fault I'm stronger than you" he argued. We bickered back and forth for a while until we were interrupted.
"Oh my god, stop it. Both of you" Nick grumbled, balling his fisted and shaking them in the air to imply annoyance. I kicked Matt one more time and scooted over next to Alahna. I stuck my tongue out and he flipped me off, then that was the end of it. "There totally in love" Chloe whispered. "For sure" Nick agreed.
A few minutes later, Bobby walked past our table and tried to talk to me.
"Hey baby" he smirked as he walked by, "see you at prom" he winked and walked away. I wanted to yell at him but he was already too far away for me to do anything without catching attention from the whole room.
"What was that about" Nate asked. I explained the whole situation with the crush he had on me, the weird texts he sent and all of the screenshots.
"You told him you have a date?" Chloe asked while reading the messages.
"Yeah, but he probably won't notice" I brush it off.
"From the way he's talking, he probably will" Alahna said.
"I think I'll be fine" I tell them, not fully believing myself.
"No Vivianne. You're not safe going to prom without a date. You need to find a guy to go with you, even if it's just a friend" Nick said.
"Well can one of you go with me?" I asked, "because you guys are the only males I talk to in this school."
"I have a date" Chris said, "sorry Viv"
"I do too" Nate added.
"Me too" Nick said, "sorry"
We all looked at Matt, who sat there quietly, trying not to be noticed.
"Come on Matt, it just one night" Chris said. "Yeah and all you gotta do is stand with her" Alahna added. I looked at Matt desperately. It was embarrassing to admit that I needed him, but I did. I'd rather be safe than be too embarrassed to ask.
"Uggghh fine" he rolled his eyes, "only because I don't want anything bad happening to you, not because I wanna be your date" he made clear. "Yes I'm aware. And thank you. I really appreciate it." I tell him. He gives me a small nod and we go back to our lunchtime conversations until the bell rings.
We continue the rest of our day just being in class and the boys drive me home. (Sorry for all the skips. School is really boring to write)
