Chapter twenty three - window

Matt.

"Matt! What the hell!" I unlock my window to let him inside.

"Why do you have that?" He points to my curling iron.

"Because I thought someone was breaking in dummy"

"Because a curler would do so much right" he joking rolled his eyes.

"Whatever Matt. Why are you here?" I say going to lock my door so nobody can walk in.

"I got bored. Nick and Chris fell asleep early for some reason so I had nothing to do"

"So you sneak in through my window?"

"Didn't realize it was such a problem. You wanna go to McDonald's?" He sits down on my bed.

"Sure" I sigh, still in disbelief that he came to my house like this.

"Let's go" he starts unlocking the window again.

"Okay"

We get in the van and start driving to my McDonald's. Matt gives me his phone for music and I play the cars group playlist that me, Chris, Nick, Peyton and Matt all share.

"Hi welcome to McDonald's. What can I get you?"

"Go" Matt whispers to me.

"Uhh can I please get an Oreo McFlurry and a large fry" I say, leaning slightly over Matt.

"Anything else?" The man says.

"Can I get the same thing?"

"Two Oreo McFlurrys and two large fries, is that all for tonight?"

"Yes please" Matt says.

"Okay your total is 11.54. Pull up to the next window"

"Alright" he starts driving. He pays for the food with a twenty dollar bill. Once he receives his change, he goes to the next window for his food.

"Thank you Matt" I smile.

"You're welcome Viv" he mimics my tone.

We get our food and start to drive off back to my house. We decide to eat in the car because we didn't wanna risk dropping the food while climbing up.

"They never fucking stir these!" I say angrily mixing my McFlurry.

"I know right! It's bullshit"

We finish our food and climb back into my room. We both sit on my bed and talk for a while.

"I love this" I say.

"Love what?" He questions.

"This. Like...hanging out when it's just us. It's nice"

"Yeah, it is" he puts his arm around me and we continue our conversation. "Holy shit! It's 2am already! I have to go" he says, getting up and grabbing his shoes.

"Do you have to?" I whine.

"If I don't wanna freak out everyone in my family, yeah"

"You can stay if you want"

"I wish I could Vivi. But I have to go. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning with Dunkin' already in the car for you and your sister" he goes back on my bed to climb out the window.

"Bye" I say, a bit disappointed.

"Bye" he turns back around and hugs me. Well, he also did something that I wasn't expecting and I'm pretty sure he was expecting it either. He kissed me on the cheek before he went out. We exchanged awkward looks, not of disgust though.

I felt my heart and stomach flutter. Did he really just do that? I locked my bedroom window and waved him off. I turned out my lights and just stared at the dark ceiling. I couldn't stop smiling. It wasn't that big of a deal to any other person. People kiss each other on the cheek all the time, right? But I was still in awe.

I fell asleep a little while after and woke up to my 6am alarm blaring in my ears. I could already tell that those three hours of sleep were gonna come back to haunt me. I sigh and drag myself out of bed to get ready.

I take a quick shower, just washing my body and face. I put on a comfy tee shirt and some baggy jeans. I brushed my teeth and my hair and decided that today was a no-makeup day. I knew I'd be falling asleep in class and I didn't wanna smudge it all over my face.

I knock on Peyton's door to see if she was done yet. She was sitting in front of her mirror on the floor putting on mascara.

"You're almost done, right?" I ask her.

"Yep. Gimme a minute and I'll be out"

I walk out to the living room and sit on the couch. That's when I get a text from Matt.

Just then, Peyton walks into the living room.

"You want something to eat from Dunkin'?" I ask her.

"Uhh can I just get some hash browns and coffee please" she goes over to the shoe pile to get her uggs.

"Yeah"

Just hearing...well seeing him say 'ily' gave me butterflies. I know he probably meant it in a friendly way but still, just let me have this.

I grabbed my chunky converse and put them on. Peyton and I grabbed our bags and headed out the door, locking it behind us.

We waited outside for a minute and then the van pulled up.

"Let's go!" Matt yells out of Chris's window.

"Hold on Matt!" I say getting up from tying my shoe. We got in the car and Matt started driving. He gave us our food which we thanked him for, and turned onto the main road. He dropped off Peyton and I scooted over to the window seat.

When we got to the high school, we got out of the van and stood around the front of the school. We met up with our friends and just conversed until the first bell rang.

During homeroom, Matt and I talked each other's ears off. It seemed like he had either forgotten about last night or it wasn't a big deal to him. I think I'm just making this bigger than it was. It's just a silly little crush, I'd get over it soon enough.
