"Dinner!" I heard my dad call from the kitchen. I got up from my bed and walked down the hall to the kitchen. I sat down at the table and waited for my plate. Peyton came out a few seconds later and joined me.

My dad put our plates in front of us. Chicken Alfredo! That's my favorite! Okay, maybe today isn't the worst...

"So girls," he hesitated, "your mom called today." "What?" Peyton said, raising her eyebrows. "Huh? What did she want?" I ask confused. "She wanted to talk to you guys but she couldn't get through to you. She apparently misses you guys" he says pretending to be surprised. "You don't believe her, do you dad?" Peyton asks. "No. I want to, trust me I do, but I can't. She probably just wants something and thinks she can get it out of you girls" he said rolling his eyes in annoyance. Me and Peyton gave each other worried looks.

Our mom was a drug addict. She was abusive toward Peyton and me. She sold everything we owned and bought drugs with it. She would rob our piggy banks, steal from my dad's wallet, pickpocket strangers...anything for drug money.

Our dad always had hope that she would recover and always tried his best to help her. She always said she was getting better and said she would quit, but she never did. She was also mentally ill. She put us all through hell. I haven't seen her in over a year. Peyton and I both have her number blocked.

We moved away from her once but it wasn't far enough. She found us and robbed us clean. Left a note saying it was her and everything. She went to jail for a few months, not long since she and my dad were still married. My dad went to get divorced with her and she owed him lots of money. Still hasn't paid yet. I don't think she will either. My dad moved us here over winter break to keep us far from our mom. I didn't miss her at all. Being far away from her is the only good things that's come out of this move so far.

"She doesn't know where we are" he added. "She was asking where we were to see you girls. I hung up on her and blocked her. We're divorced now and you guys don't go to her so there no reason to have contact with her anymore" he said.

I was proud of him. He never had the heart to block her. He hated her guts but still soft of loved her deep down. Well not her, but the idea of her if she was sober. He finally cut her off for good. That was a big step. I could see the hurt in his face. Half from the realization she'd never get better, and half from the fact that his daughter had to go the rest of their lives without a mom.

We finished up dinner and all headed back to our rooms. I fell asleep very early, exhausted from the day I had.
