Chapter sixteen - prom night pt.2

Suddenly, I feel a presence next to me.

"I'm sorry" he whispers and sits next to me. "I'm really sorry"

I ignore him and look at the ground, wiping my tears away trying to make it look like I wasn't crying.

"Vivi please. I'm really sorry. I should have reacted like that. I was being a dick. I'm really sorry" he puts his hand on my thigh. I flinched at first but then I rolled with it.

"It's okay Matt. I was being a bitch. We're both equally responsible"

Now it was basically pouring out but for some reason, neither of us wanted to go back in. For the first time, Matt and I hugged.

"Vivi, you're freezing. Take this" he took his jacket off and put it on me.

"Thank you" I whispered.

"Of course" he gives me a small smile. I smile back at him and lean my head in his shoulder. For the second time, we sat in silence, this time less angry.

I feel his arm go around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him. He rubbed his thumb against my arm and rested his head on mine. I've never really like Matt at all, especially like this, but this was nice. I could get used to it.

"Vivi. Can I tell you something?"

"Hmm? What is it?"

"I don't think I actually hate you, you know"

"I don't think I hate you either Matt"

We looked at each other. Intense eye contact that neither of us were going to break. Our faces so close yet so far. I saw him glance down at my lips once or twice. Our faces slowly drift closer.

"THERE YOU GUYS ARE I THOUGHT YALL DIED!"

We both turn around and see Chris and Nick running toward us. We both stood up to face the boys.

"Sorry. We-" I get cut off by Matt.

"Sorry guys. We were just talking"

"In the rain?" Nick questions. "Why didn't you talk inside"

"There was too much going on" I said.

"Alright well, we'll leave you two to it. It's freezing I'm going in"

"Yeah Matt. Let's go back inside" I shiver a bit.

"Okay." We walk in together, a few feet behind Nick and Chris.

"So. You guys made up I see" Chris laughs, pointing at Matt's arm around me. I hadn't even realized it was still there until he pointed it out. Matt instinctively removed his arm and took a step away.

"Whatever Chris" Matt rolled his eyes. Chris and Nick gave each other a look and let out a small giggle. They walked away while whisper to each other and looking back periodically.

"They're so annoying" Matt sighed nervously.

"For real"

"Wanna go get drinks"

"Sure"

We walk over to the beverage table and grab our drinks. Matt grabs a root beer and I grab some punch.

"Thank you Matt"

"For what?"

"For beating Bobby's ass" I chuckle.

"Oh yeah of course. Your welcome.

I give him another hug and we stayed for a little longer than expected. But neither of us let go for a while.

"I'm gonna go refill my cup. Come with me?" I say, pulling my arms away from his shoulders.

"Yeah. Let's go."

I ended up drinking 4 more cups of the punch. It was really good. What do they put in that shit?

"Vivi. Come here. Are you okay? You're wobbling" Matt says.

"I'm fine" I slightly slur my words.

"Vivianne are you drunk?"

"No. I'm not. Stop being so annoying" I laugh.

"Vivianne. Hand me your cup please" Matt holds his hand out concerned. I listen and give him my drink. He smells the cup and takes a small sip. "Holy shit Vivianne you are. How many of these have you had?"

"Uhh like...5"

"God damnit. Come on. Let's go find everyone. I think it's time to go home anyways. People are leaving"

"Matt" I whine. "I don't wanna leave"

"Come on Viv. Please. We have to go"

"Ugh fine"

Matt grabs my hand and we walk to find everyone that rode with us in the van. First we find Nate and his date. "No man we're good. We're going with our other friends" Nate says to Matt.

"Okay. Bye man" they hug and pat each others backs.

We go off to find Nick and Chris and their dates to ask if they're ready to go.

"I've been ready. Let's go" Nick says walking out.

"Me too" Caleb says.

"I'm ready" Chris rubs his eyes.

"Yeah me too" Aleyna agrees.

"Then let's go" Matt waves for them to follow him to the van. He pulls me along with him opens my door. "Get in"

I climb into the seat and he gets in the drivers seat. A few seconds later, everybody loads into the car and Matt gets to driving.

He drops off Caleb and Aleyna at both of there houses.

"Am I dropping you off Viv or are you staying the night with us?" Matt asks while pulling out of Caleb's driveway.

"My dad will kill me if he sees me drunk. Do you think I could stay the night"

"Of course you can. But would your dad really be mad at you even if it was by accident?"

"He won't believe me. I used to be a sneaky kid and he still doesn't fully trust the fact that I've changed"

"Hmm. Got it. Well let's get home then" Matt drives to his house.

I start feeling my eyes get heavy and I find myself falling asleep. I see street light slowly dimming as my eyes close. That was the last thing I remember.
