Scarlett

The next morning, I felt the weight of our actions. The office was buzzing with gossip, and I knew our secret wouldn't stay hidden for long. But I couldn't deny the connection I felt with Alexander. It was intoxicating.

I knew it was only a matter of time before the news of Alexander and me spread like wildfire through the office. The whispers and glances were unavoidable, but I tried to focus on my work, ignoring the gossip.

But then, Vivian Blackwood, Alexander's mother, returned from her business trip. I'd heard stories about her formidable presence and sharp tongue. I wasn't looking forward to facing her.

However, things took a turn when Alexander's mother, Vivian Blackwood, found out about us. She was a formidable woman, and she made her disapproval known immediately.

"Alexander, I need to speak with you," she said, her voice cold and commanding. "In private."

I watched as they disappeared into his office, my heart sinking. I knew this wouldn't end well.

As I worked at my desk, I sensed a chill in the air. Vivian stormed out of her office room, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on me. I felt a shiver run down my spine as she marched towards me.

"Scarlett, my office. Now," she commanded, her voice icy.

I followed her, my heart racing with anticipation. What would she say? Would she fire me on the spot?

As we entered her office, Alexander was already there, looking guilty and nervous. Vivian's gaze pierced through me, her expression a mixture of disgust and disappointment.

"So, Scarlett, I hear you've been...entertaining my son," she said, her voice dripping with venom. "I must say, I'm surprised. You're not exactly the kind of girl I envisioned for Alexander."

I stood tall, meeting her gaze. "Madam, I —"

"Don't bother explaining, Scarlett. I know exactly what's been going on. And let me make one thing clear : this relationship will not be tolerated. You're not suitable for Alexander, and I'll do everything in my power to put an end to this...infatuation."

Alexander

My mom was furious. "How could you, Alexander? You're risking everything for a girl from a simple background. What will people think?"

I stood my ground, my anger matching hers. "I don't care what people think, Mom. Scarlett is important to me."

My mom's eyes narrowed. "This is unacceptable. You're one of the head of this company, and your actions reflect on all of us. You need to end this now."

I shook my head, resolute. "I won't. Scarlett is different. She makes me better, and I won't give her up."

My mom's expression hardened. "Then you're making a grave mistake. Remember, Alexander, everything you've built can be taken away just as easily."

Her threat hung in the air long after she left. I knew she wouldn't back down, but neither would I. Scarlett was worth the fight, no matter the consequences.

Vivian Blackwood's POV (Alexander's Mom)

As I stepped into the office, I could sense the whispers and glances. I'd been away on business, but it seemed my absence hadn't quelled the rumors. My son, Alexander, and that...girl, Scarlett, had been carrying on a clandestine affair. I'd heard whispers of her but I never thought she'd set her sights on my son.

Henry, my brother-in-law and business partner, had mentioned the possibility of a relationship, but I'd dismissed it as mere speculation. Now, it seemed the truth was out. I summoned Alexander to my office, my mind racing with the implications.

When he arrived, I could see the guilt written across his face. "Alexander, I've heard the rumors. I expect an explanation," I said, my voice firm but controlled.

He shifted uncomfortably, "Mom, I —"

"Don't bother justifying it, Alexander. I know exactly what's been going on. What I want to know is why you'd risk everything for...her."

Scarlett. The name left a bitter taste in my mouth. She was a talented employee, but she was not suitable for my son. Not by a long shot. I would put a stop to this, no matter what it took. The Blackwood family reputation would not be tarnished by this...infatuation.
