47. For The Best

Savannah's POV

It has been a few long days since I confessed to Matt that I cheated on Theo. I regret it so much because now he won't speak to me, and I've been deliberately avoiding Adam in case I run into Matt, and he exposes it out of anger.

I lie in bed, scrolling through my phone, lost in my thoughts, when a text from Adam pulls me back to reality.

Adam:
Hi, I'm in the front room. Can you come down?

I didn't even hear Adam coming into my house, and my parents are out. I need to remember to listen out when I'm home alone.

I make my way downstairs and open the door to the front room. Adam is sitting with Rosanna, and Matt stands in the corner of the room with his hands in his pockets. 

"Hey, Rosanna. I didn't know you were here. Are you both back together?" I say, noticing her holding hands with Adam.

She rolls her eyes, releasing his hand. Only Adam makes eye contact with me. "Can you sit down?" He asks.

I'm immediately concerned as I take a seat on a different sofa. "What's going on?" I glance towards Matt suspiciously. Did he tell on me?

"We know what you did to Theo." Adam states.

Shock washes over me, and I angrily narrow my eyes at Matt. "You seriously told them?"

Matt glares at me coldly. "No, I didn't. You-"

Adam cuts him off. "Theo told us."

I pause for a second, then reply. "When?"

"We saw him yesterday."

"What?! So, you all met with Theo behind my back?" I notice Rosanna roll her eyes again, shaking her head. "Rosanna, you literally broke up with Adam for seeing Theo in secret, and now you've done the same thing? Make that make sense."

Rosanna faces me with a dirty look. "Don't start, Sav. I broke up with Adam because his actions hurt you, and I couldn't be with someone who'd hurt my best friend like that. But now I know that he did nothing wrong. You were the problem. We all hated Theo because of you, and you couldn't once tell us the truth."

I've turned red being called out like this and my eyes start to water. "I didn't mean to cheat."

Matt speaks up, making me face him. "Huh? So you didn't let some random man fuck you?"

"No, I- I did." I admit reluctantly. "But Theo was hiding things. I couldn't trust him."

Rosanna speaks. "That's an excuse, and cheating is never the answer. You could've broken up with him like a normal person."

"I know, I should've, and I regret that I didn't. As soon as I cheated, I regretted it. I had more opportunities to cheat again afterwards, but I didn't."

Matt claps mockingly, his voice full of sarcasm. "Oh wow, well done, you stopped yourself after you fucking cheated."

Rosanna snickers at Matt, making me feel a wave of sadness as I realise I've lost my best friend.

Adam finally speaks up, controlling the situation. "You still let us believe Theo was in the wrong, Savannah. You could've owned up to your mistakes instead of letting him take the blame."

"But he was in the wrong. He could've just talked to me instead of running away and-"

Matt interrupts. "Why does he owe you that?"

Struggling for words, I stammer. "I-I, uh-"

Matt continues. "He knew you cheated the day you did it. He gave you time to admit it, and you never did. You let him meet the fucking guy and didn't say a thing."
