"I was so worried, Lucy. I thought we could celebrate our engagement and our baby and just enjoy a beautiful day together... When you were gone, I would have killed every one of them with my own hands if the cavalry hadn't come. Lucy, I couldn't bear the thought of losing both of you," Tim said, expressing the thoughts that had been running through his mind for the past few hours. He sat on the edge of the bed, took her hand in his, and gently stroked it.
"Tim, but I made it. We're cops; our job is dangerous. That's part of it. We're never as safe as other people who just sit in their offices, and I know you would have done it, even if it meant losing your job," Lucy replied.
"I know the job is dangerous, but we weren't on duty. It was a private trip, and they were waiting for us," Tim interrupted her.
"Yes, and now they're behind bars, locked away for probably a lifetime. Yes, Tim, I was also scared, incredibly so, when they took me. But I knew you would save me, save us. And that's what matters. We look out for each other and protect each other."
"You are my dream woman, Lucy Chen. I want you more than I've ever wanted anyone in my life," he continued.
"Maybe we should plan the wedding as soon as possible? I want to be your wife, and I'd like to dance at the wedding without having a huge belly," Lucy changed the subject, and Tim looked at her, surprised.
"Oh yeah? Your belly will look wonderful. But you're the bride, and thus the queen of this wedding," Tim smiled.
"Okay, then we'll get married as soon as I'm out of here," she laughed, her tone leaving no doubt that she meant it. Tim nodded and immediately took out his phone.
"Then let me make some calls. I guess I'll need help organizing everything, and you just focus on getting better," he ordered. She smiled and watched him leave the room, presumably to call Angela for help. Only then did she feel how tired she was, and while reflecting on what had happened, she fell asleep.
Outside, Tim spent a long time on the phone with Angela, clearly overwhelmed by the decisions that needed to be made for the wedding. So many things he hadn't even thought about, despite having been married before. But Angela promised not only to be his best woman but also to take care of everything and especially to help Lucy with the dresses after the hospital. She assured Tim that Lucy would look like a princess, and he wouldn't be able to take his eyes off her when he saw her.
For the next few days until Lucy's discharge, Tim was also given time off. Grey had noticed that Lucy was planning a wedding soon, and Tim was completely occupied with it, so he didn't want to bring him back to work too soon, especially since it would benefit Lucy to have him by her side.
When the discharge papers were ready, Tim carried her things to the car, and they drove off.
"Hey, this isn't the way home?" Lucy noted after a while.
"Yeah, I know. We're going to a store Angela picked out to find you a dress. And while you're doing that, I'm going to check out the location she found, which, surprise, is suddenly available this weekend," he smiled at her happily. She hadn't expected that but beamed with joy.
"Okay, we're here. Have fun, take your time, and enjoy the day," he said goodbye to her with a loving kiss before she got out.
"Thank you, I'll call you when we're done. I love you," she replied and stepped out.
"I love you too," he said back before the door closed, and Lucy entered the store where Angela was already waiting.
Tim drove for quite a while until he reached the location. It was like a small castle by a lake, a true dream but probably unaffordable. What had Angela picked out? He wanted to give Lucy everything, including a dream wedding, but wasn't this a bit too much? He got out and was immediately greeted by an older lady who seemed to know who he was.
"Hello Mr. Bradford," she greeted him. "Mrs. Lopez has already informed me. I'll show you everything. Your wife will experience a dream here with you. This place is simply magical," she smiled and gestured for Tim to follow.
"Excuse me, but isn't all this incredibly expensive? Don't get me wrong, it looks like a dream, but I have to be able to afford it," Tim voiced his doubts. The lady just smiled and nodded slightly.
"Yes, you're right, this place comes at a price, but everything is already booked and paid for. You apparently have friends who care a lot about you," she explained, and Tim's mouth dropped open.
"What? When? Who?" he asked, speechless.
"I'm not at liberty to discuss that with you. We're just here to discuss the schedule, and I'll show you around," she replied with a smile, and Tim gave in. He'd have to sort this out with Angela.
Tim was given a tour that showcased one highlight after another. It was truly a dream, and he confirmed in the end that they would be getting married there over the weekend.
He called Angela once he was back in the car, wanting to know how things were going with them and, more importantly, who was paying for all this.
"Hey, Tim," she laughed into the phone.
"Angela. Who's paying for the wedding?" he asked directly. There was a brief silence.
"Tim, you have a lot of good friends. Just take it as a gift and be happy," she laughed, knowing Tim found it hard to accept such things, "Oh my God, Lucy," she then almost shouted into the phone, making Tim flinch.
"Angela? What's going on?" he immediately panicked.
"Lucy is standing here in front of me looking like the most beautiful woman in a dress from another world. Tim, if I were into women, she'd be mine now," she laughed, and he could hear Lucy saying something in the background, though he couldn't make it out.
"She's always beautiful," Tim replied, "I'm glad you're having such success finding something," he continued, "Well, should I get some food? Then we can all eat together when you're done?" he suggested.
"Sure, I think Lucy has made her choice, and we'll be done soon. See you then," she said, ending the call.
