The next few days flew by, and Tim and Lucy had a lot to take care of since the wedding was happening so soon. But this was what they wanted, so they welcomed the stress gladly.
On the day of the wedding, Angela picked Lucy up early. Tim followed shortly after in his car. Even though Angela was Tim's best woman, he insisted she help Lucy, and he would manage to get into his suit by himself.
At the location, everything already looked perfect, beautifully decorated, and the last chairs were being set up. They had decided to have the ceremony right by a lake, and Tim didn't regret that decision at all. It all looked perfect and beautiful.
Tim went into a small room and slowly got dressed. He had a moment to himself when there was a knock at the door.
"Come in," he called, looking toward the door.
"Hey, Tim, Lucy is almost ready. Are you nervous?" Angela asked.
"What do you think? Of course, I am," he replied, looking in the mirror for the hundredth time.
"You look perfect, don't worry. And your soon-to-be wife is stunning. I was speechless; I can't wait to see your face," she laughed and gestured for Tim to go.
"Okay, I'm coming. I've got everything."
Tim walked through the guests who were already seated and stood at the end of the aisle next to the officiant. Angela stood behind him and nodded at him.
On the other side stood Nolan, Lucy's best man, smiling at Tim.
Then the guests fell silent, and one by one, they turned to look down the aisle where Lucy was slowly walking forward. She had eyes only for Tim and smiled with pure happiness.
Tim looked at Lucy, his mouth slightly agape. She looked breathtaking in her dress, her hair softly pinned up with some strands framing her face. She was simply his dream woman. She stood opposite him, and they grinned at each other as if they were about to burst with happiness.
The officiant began his speech, but Tim didn't catch much of it; his thoughts were entirely on Lucy. He only tore his gaze away from her for a few seconds when he was prompted to say his vows. He looked deep into Lucy's eyes before he began to speak. Many people wrote down what they wanted to say, but he didn't need that; he just knew.
"Lucy, I met you as a young, somewhat unsure woman. A woman I wrote in her evaluation that she questions every decision. But I was wrong. You are a woman who knows exactly what she's doing, who stands up for those she loves and protects them with everything she has. I thought you were just a rookie like any other that I could push out in a few weeks. But I was wrong again; you had more grit than most of our colleagues. But that's not all. You were capable of so much more. You managed to touch my heart and get close to me in a way I had forbidden anyone else. But with you, it was just different. You were simply in my heart. When you went undercover, my thoughts were only of you, and I wanted to protect you and bring you back no matter what. That's when I knew I loved you. When we were undercover together and got separated, I would have died for you if it meant saving you. I would have given up everything in my life for you. Then when we came back, and I found out you were expecting my child, I was happier than I'd ever been in my life. And when you were kidnapped, I felt the greatest fear of my life: the fear of losing you and our baby. I could never have forgiven myself if I hadn't protected you both. You are the woman of my life, and I want to honor and protect you always, until death do us part."
Lucy's eyes were glistening, and she tried hard not to cry; she wanted to keep her makeup looking decent for at least a few more photos. Then the officiant turned to her.
"Tim, you were really an annoying pain when we first met, and I became your rookie. I thought your goal was to make my training hell, but I learned it wasn't about that. It was about preparing me for everything and showing me the seriousness of the job. You gradually opened up parts of your life to me, and I fell in love with you bit by bit until I could see the real Tim when we went undercover. The Tim who hides behind the barking, loud cop is all about protecting his family and friends. I'm glad you are the father of my child, and I can be sure you will be the greatest role model for him or her. You will show what love is and how far people will go for it because you are the man who would do anything for love. When I saw you collapse, I wanted to do everything. I couldn't lose you; I wouldn't have survived that. I fell in love with you and everything about you, and I never want to give that up. Until death do us part."
Tim's eyes were also shimmering, and it was clear he was trying hard not to cry.
They exchanged their rings, and the officiant smiled at them both.
"Lucy Chen, do you take this man, Timothy Bradford, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and honor, until death do you part?"
"Yes, I do," she replied firmly, looking into Tim's eyes again.
"Timothy Bradford, do you take this woman, Lucy Chen, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and honor, until death do you part?"
"Yes, I do," he replied with a smile, looking at Lucy.
"You may now kiss the bride," the officiant said with a smile, stepping back.
Lucy took a step closer to Tim. For a brief moment, they looked deeply into each other's eyes before Tim leaned down, placed his hand on her back, and gave her an intimate kiss. Their guests all applauded and cheered. Tim deepened the kiss, not wanting to let her go. He wished he could stay in this moment forever. Then they slowly pulled away from each other, looking into each other's eyes once more before walking arm in arm through their guests.
