Elizabeth zoned out while Alby explained the different aspects of the glade to the new boy. Something about him was familiar. Maybe he reminded her of someone. Was it Minho? Ben? Newt?

Just as she was trying to think of any similarities between Newt and the Greenie, Newt appeared right by her side.

Her relationship with Newt was different than how it was with the other boys in the glade. While Newt, Minho and Ben were all probably her best friends, it had always been different with Newt. Their friendship was almost on another level, he was almost brotherly to her. Or the closest she would ever get, anyway.

"..This is Newt. When I'm not around he's in charge." Alby explained.

"Well, it's a good thing you're always around, then." Newt grinned.

"Damn right." Elizabeth agreed sarcastically, earning an elbow to her ribs from Newt who was laughing anyway.

"Listen, that was some dash you made earlier. You know, for a second, I thought you had the chops to be a runner, till you face-planted."

Elizabeth rolled her eyes but laughed along with Newt and Alby nonetheless.

"What, runner?" The boy asked, too curious about all the new words he was learning to even register Newt's insult.

"Good one, Newt." Elizabeth retorted, smiling. Usually they waited to let the greenie settle in naturally before they started talking about the maze, grievers, runners and such.

Newt pushed her and turned to Alby, who was chuckling and rolling his eyes at the pair.

'Stop bickering, you two. Your meant to be setting a good example," he said through his smile, "Newt, do me a favour. Go find Chuck, and Elizabeth, Minho and Ben will be back soon. Make sure your ready for them."

Elizabeth saluted in a playful manner, "Yes sir." She had one last look at the greenie, ensuring that he wasn't going to klunk himself if she wasn't around before turning back and making her way to the med hut, followed by Newt.

"Looks like you've had a fun morning." Newt chided.

"I always do."

"Even more so today it seems." He wiggled his eyebrows at her

Elizabeth stopped walking and turned her body to face Newt, who's face was hosting a mischievous grin.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Elizabeth asked.

Newt laughed, shaking his head in disbelief, "We've been stuck here together for over a year now and you think I wouldn't realise?"

"Realise what?" Elizabeth expressed genuine confusion, which only seemed to make Newt's laughter increase.

"Have you even realized yet?"

He was hunched over laughing at this point, attracting attention from the other graders who were looking over and giggling to themselves, despite having no clue what was going on. Elizabeth grabbed his arm and continued to walk, dragging him along.

"What are you talking about?"

"I saw the way you looked at him before you left and the eye rolling when I made that joke about his little jog."

"So..?"

"Its obvious you fancy him." He said it so nonchalantly and carried on walking, leaving Elizabeth behind him, shock written over her face.

"I absolutely do not!" She marched up behind him. Kicking at one of his legs as he walked, making him stumble over his own feet. Yet he was still grinning.
