NEW YORK 2011 - MELANIE'S HOME
The smell of roasting turkey and the sound of soft laughter filled Melanie's cozy home as the family gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving. The warmth of the fire crackled in the fireplace, casting a soft, golden glow over the living room. Scarlett sat on the floor with her fourteen-month-old daughter, Violet, cradled in her lap. Violet's big, expressive eyes were wide with wonder as she took in the festive decorations, her chubby hands trying to touch the flickering candlelight and the shiny ornaments on the table.
"Look at those pretty lights, Vi," Scarlett cooed softly, her voice filled with love as she gently rocked her daughter in her arms. "Do you like them?"
Violet giggled, a sweet, melodic sound that filled the room with warmth. "Yights," she babbled, her eyes sparkling with delight as she reached out towards the candles. Her pronunciation was still a bit wobbly, but the word was clear enough to make Scarlett smile
"Yes, lights," Scarlett echoed, her heart swelling with affection as she kissed Violet's forehead. "You're so smart, my little love."
As Scarlett held her daughter close, she marveled at how much Violet had grown in such a short time. It seemed like only yesterday that she was a tiny newborn, swaddled in blankets and sleeping peacefully in her crib. Now, she was a lively toddler, full of energy and curiosity, always eager to explore the world around her. Events like this, which most of her family present, she mostly treasured sitting like this with Violet, as the girl was barely with her when all her sibling or aunts wanted to get a hold of the girl.
Violet nestled closer to Scarlett, her small fingers tangling in her mother's hair as she rested her head against Scarlett's chest. "Mama," she murmured contentedly, her voice soft and sweet.
Violet looked up at her mother with wide, trusting eyes, her tiny hand reaching up to touch Scarlett's face. "Wuv Mama," she said, her voice filled with innocence and pure affection.
Scarlett felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes, her heart swelling with emotion at her daughter's words. She hugged Violet tightly, feeling a profound sense of gratitude for the precious gift of motherhood. "You are my everything," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "My little miracle."
As the family continued to bustle around them, preparing for the feast, Scarlett and Violet remained in their own little world, wrapped in the warmth of their love. Melanie and the others cast affectionate glances their way, knowing how special this bond was between mother and daughter. But they kept their distance, allowing Scarlett and Violet to share this intimate moment together.
"Ready for some turkey, Vi?" Scarlett asked, her voice filled with playful excitement as she gently bounced Violet on her knee. "It's going to be so yummy!"
Violet clapped her hands, her eyes lighting up with excitement at the mention of food. "Yummy!" she echoed, her voice filled with glee.
Scarlett laughed softly, her heart brimming with joy at the sight of her daughter's happiness. She knew that these moments were fleeting, that Violet would grow up all too quickly, but for now, she savored every precious second with her little girl.
As the family gathered around the table, Scarlett placed Violet in a high chair beside her, making sure her daughter was comfortable and secure. She watched with a tender smile as Violet eagerly reached for the small pieces of food placed on her tray, her tiny fingers grasping at the morsels with unbridled enthusiasm.
"Careful, sweetheart," Scarlett murmured gently, guiding Violet's hand as she picked up a small piece of turkey. "Not too much at once, okay?"
Violet looked up at her mother with wide, trusting eyes, her cheeks puffed out adorably as she chewed on the food. "Mama," she said, her voice muffled by the food in her mouth.
