"Ok so you know the drill right? Eyes on at all times. Not just door to door, bathroom is the only exception." Maya tells Officers Gibson and Miller.
"Got it, Detective." Miller confirms, Gibson nods along. The two officers turn to leave the conference room going off in search of Carina as instructed.
"Ok - Any problems call me on my cell." Maya calls after them, turning to Andy she nods. "Ready?"
Andy nods. "Yep. Just need to let Miranda know we are leaving. Probably couldn't hurt to let Carina know too." She says carefully.
Maya rolls her eyes. "You can do that - I will find Miranda." Maya says. Andy just makes a face. "What?" Maya asks her.
"You know what. This back and forth with Carina, first you hate her, then you seem friendly or whatever, and now you're back to hating her?" Andy says with a smirk.
Maya shakes her head. "I do not. You MIGHT have been a little right - she isn't that bad. BUT she is clearly in a mood and we have a tendency to rub each other up the wrong way, so I would rather avoid a confrontation." Maya shrugs.
Andy huffs. "Fine, but only because it's my day / night with her so it would make sense for it to be me updating her." Andy says leaving the room.
____
20 minutes later and Maya is on her way back to the station, her and Andy both driving separately as their cars were both at the Station 19 building. Maya replays the conversations with Carina from earlier in her head, recalling how annoyed she got so quickly, which, had that been one of her first encounters with Carina she would have expected it. Hell that is exactly who she expected Carina to be - arrogant and rude, the inconvenience of the situation all she was concerned with.
But the reason this interaction was nagging at her and playing on her mind, is that the last 24 hours or so have shown that is in fact NOT who she is. That she is in fact a seemingly decent and clearly intelligent person. So that means there is another reason for what Maya considers an overreaction to the increased security.
"She's scared." Maya whispers to herself almost as if uncovering a secret. "Of course. That's why she lashed out... She's trying to hide how much this is scaring her." She says to herself, sighing, knowing that she can't do much about that at the moment. Not that there is any reason for her to want to of course...
Once she arrives at the station Maya makes her way over to the layout room that is now their operations base, where the victims, timelines, known facts and any pertinent observations are all displayed across the walls.
Maya casts her eyes over the walls, over the faces of the victims, moving from left to right, from the very first one - Natalie Morton, all the way through to- Maya sucks in a sharp breath when she notices next to the photo of Heidi is another picture, under it instead of the specifics about a murder is a single question mark.
Maya feels as if the ground is shifting under her looking at the picture of Carina up there on the wall next to 5 other people, all of whom are dead. "Fuck, get it together Bishop." She whispers to herself. The door opening and Andy walking in.
"Hey." Andy says seeing Maya in the room. "What's wrong?" She asks when she notes the look on her friend's face.
Maya shakes her head. "No-nothing. Just, looking over the details." She says dismissively.
Andy frowns slightly, having known Maya as long as she has she can always tell when she is lying to her, Andy casts her eyes around the room, wondering what has her partner on edge before noticing Carina's picture has been added to the victim wall. "WHO THE FUCK DID THAT?" Andy shouts startling Maya who tries desperately to look indifferent.
