"Um, I am really sorry to interrupt Captain, but um, dispatch called... There's been a body found in Barnes woods." He says, holding onto the side of the door.
Maya huffs. "So call homicide. We aren't taking any new cases right now." She says.
He nods "I...I, know. Um, that's the thing, they asked for Detective's Bishop and Herrera, specifically. The body dump matches your serial, a blue ribbon and a snake drawn on the victims torso in their blood." He says looking at Maya.
Maya momentarily feels like the air has been knocked out of her as she and Andy look at each other in horror. Maya has one thought though, and one thought only. Carina.
"Wha- um, uh..." Maya stutters pulling her phone out of her pocket dialling Gibson.
The second the call connects Maya all but barks into the phone "GIBSON, where is Carina?"
___
"TODAY GIBSON.... ANSWER ME!" Maya barks as her and Andy quickly make their way through the station and to the car.
"I, er, she... in her apartment?" He squeaks.
"IS THAT A QUESTION?" She yells.
"No, no ma'am. She hasn't left her apartment or come out since Detective Herrera left earlier." He says quickly.
"So what you are saying is you THINK she is in the apartment - but you haven't actually seen her!?" Maya grunts as Andy weaves through traffic, sirens wailing on their way to the scene.
"No. I mean. We haven't seen her but, Detective, there's only one door, and she's 5 floors up. If we haven't seen her she hasn't come out." He says.
"And you haven't moved - like AT ALL?" She asks.
"No... Well not really." He says sheepishly.
"EXPLAIN GIBSON, NOW!" She yells, Jack looks at Officer Miller who is looking back at him with wide eyes as he whispers 'what did you do?!'
"Well I just... There was an old lady with shopping and I helped her to her door, and Miller had gone to the bathroom so technically there was no one by her door for like a minute tops." He says.
Maya huffs. "GIBSON, GET EYES ON HER, NOW!" She yells.
"Yes Detective - I'll call you-" He starts but is interrupted before he can suggest calling her back.
"NOW GIBSON WITH ME ON THE LINE." She shouts.
Gibson immediately knocks loudly. "Dr. DeLuca? It's Officers Gibson and Miller. Open up." He waits for a few seconds before taking a deep breath. "Um, Detective - there's no answer."
Maya feels panic start to well up inside as Andy informs her they are almost at the scene. "Gibson, listen to me carefully, I don't care how you do it, break the damn door down if you must. But GET IN THERE." She says desperately trying to keep her voice from shaking, ultra aware of Andy's gaze shifting to her intermittently.
"Miller, get the building manager...He should be able to let us in." He says, gesturing to Miller to go, "I'll call you back Detective." He says, not waiting to be told otherwise before cutting the call.
Andy glances at Maya as they pull up to the scene. "You ok?" She asks.
Maya ignores the question completely and jumps out of the car, heading straight towards the crime scene tape flashing her ID. "Officer!" She yells at the nearest uniform inside the taped off area. "Where is the body?"
