The Murder Show

CHAPTER 9

"Hey! I'm here. Sorry." Maya breaths out rushing into the studio when she can see through the glass Carina is just sitting down ready to start her show.

Andy rolls her eyes. "Finally, thanks for showing up!" She scoffs at Maya's apology. "Ok so nothing of note to tell you. No issues, calls or contact attempts. I, on the other hand, am in need of my own shower and shampoo, so I will catch up with you later today." She tells Maya who nods.

"Sure - oh and Vic and Travis are looking back over some of the evidence for us this morning too. Something Sullivan said last night about fresh eyes... I realised that they haven't looked at the evidence as a whole. They have done case by case analysis." Maya tells her.

Andy nods. "Yeah, good call. I'll catch up with them once I am clean and fresh." She laughs, before she leaves. Maya quickly makes her way over to the desk where their tech Jimmy is sitting next to Ben the sound engineer.

"Hey guys." She whispers slightly, picking up a pair of headphones placing them over her ears she hears Carina talking, she looks up just as Carina turns to see Maya is now in the studio and gives her a smile, which Maya returns before looking away and busying herself looking at the notes from the previous day's show.

For the most part the show passes without incident, and when Carina wraps up the show Maya is relieved they haven't heard from the killer. She chats with Jimmy about the recordings and any trace points or patterns that may have come up - not that any had unsurprisingly - as she see's Carina making her way out into the studio.

"Detective, hey." Carina says.

"Dr. DeLuca." Maya nods, Amelia who is standing just behind Carina clears her throat. "Hello, Ms. Shepherd." Maya says with a teasing tone.

"Well hello to you too detective. Glad you could join us today." Amelia says with a smile.

"Yeah, sorry about that. Accident on the highway held me up." Maya says looking at Carina as she apologises, wanting to make sure she knows it was nothing to do with the killer or anything for her to be concerned about.

"So, Dr. DeLuca... What's the plan today? I can either stick around for the afternoon or hand off to Gibson and Miller and come back to meet you later for the overnight?" Maya says.

Carina smiles with an eye roll. "Oh, are we back to Dr DeLuca? I thought I told you to call me Carina." She says.

"Right, sorry." Maya mumbles.

Amelia looks between them with a chuckle before walking away saying nothing.

"I have a few meetings here this afternoon, then I need to go and run some errands..." Carina says, turning to Maya.

"Ok would you mind me sticking around? I have some paperwork I can catch up on whilst you have your meetings and then with the traffic situation it seems silly to swap round for the sake of a few hours." Maya says.

Carina smiles warmly at Maya nodding her head agreeing with the plan. "Ok great... I'll just, um, go call Gibson and confirm." Maya says starting to walk away.

"Oh Detective?" Carina calls, noting they are now alone in the room.

"Hmm?" Maya replies as she turns back to Carina.

"For the record, if I could choose, you are always the preferred law enforcement company I would keep." She winks turning and going back into the sound studio.

Maya stands shocked, still for a moment, feeling the blush creeping up her cheeks, before shaking her head and walking out of the studio, seemingly unaware Carina was standing in the sound studio smirking at the reaction Maya had to the teasing comment.
