CHAPTER 21

Andy frowns, she connects her laptop up to the large screen before opening up her email and loading the image attached. When the image shows on the screen the room goes silent. "HOLY SHIT!" Gibson exclaims.

"Is that?" Vic starts before trailing off in disbelief, looking at Andy and Maya. Maya sits wide eyed and shell shocked.

"Oh my god." Maya whispers.

Maya stands walking towards the screen squinting as she studies the image in minute detail. "It's not her... Look no beauty mark under her lip." Maya says, ignoring the look from Andy. "But holy shit she and Carina could be twins!" She says.

"Well I think that answers the why in relation to Carina." Ross says.

"It may also explain when she is being treated so differently..." Maya says.

"How so?" Gibson asks.

Maya rolls her eyes. "Well, I wonder if killing Carina in his mind is like I don't know, the pinnacle or something. Perhaps the fact that there is such a resemblance between her and his ex-wife, he can't bring himself to kill her so Carina is the next best thing, to live out a sick fantasy... It also explains why he is toying with her so much." She says.

Sullivan nods. "This is really helpful, again it's another piece of the puzzle that helps us understand who this guy is. But also in the event we don't have physical evidence to charge we need a mountain of circumstantial - I think this certainly helps." He says.

"Ok so apart from the picture what else do we know about her?" Ross asks.

Andy opens the files up and starts to run through the information. "So, Misha Roland - previously Klein, 34 years old." She starts eyes flicking over the information. "Says here she is still in San Francisco... Ok this is interesting - 2 names on the lease for the place she is living. Her's and a Cara Esposito, 35 year old female."

"Ok so that supports the theory of her leaving him for a woman, or at any rate leaving him and then being involved with a woman." Maya says.

"Look her up on socials." Ross suggests.

Andy loads up instagram finding the person they are looking for who thankfully has an open profile. "Yep. Definitely a couple." She says showing picture after picture of Misha and Cara wrapped around each other, happy smiles on their faces. Even one of them kissing.

"I think your initial thoughts on why he is behaving so differently with Carina than the other victims is worth keeping in mind. Before we had no idea why he took Carina and didn't just kill her like the rest. Now we do. This suggests he isn't done with whatever game he is playing yet." Ross says.

"Have SFPD check on the ex. We have no clue where this guy is, he could be going back there. He could target her. Especially as we have made it so difficult for him to get anywhere near Carina." Sullivan instructs the team.

"Yes Lieutenant." Andy and Maya say at almost the same time.

"Ok otherwise what is the plan here? Other than continuing to look for him?" Ross asks.

"Well the obvious thing is to ensure Carina is kept in sight at all times now. Even more so now we understand how personal the link back to the killer is. The realistic view is he has gone to ground because he knows that we know who he is now..." Maya says trailing off.

Vic looks at her slightly. "What aren't you saying Bishop?" She asks.

Maya sighs looking at Andy they share a small nod of confirmation, confirming they are on the same page. "That now he knows time is running out, he knows he likely only has time for one last move... That he is either on his way to or in San Francisco and will target the ex-wife, or he is biding his time and will target Carina as his final victim, and soon." She says grimly.
