Reynold's POV:

Crash!

Another vase was thrown against the wall.

The library lay in ruins. Shelves that once held rows of neatly organized books now stood shattered, their splintered wood mingling with the torn pages and covers scattered across the floor. Glass of broken objects glittered like fallen stars among the debris. Chairs were overturned and cushions ripped apart, their stuffing spilling out like entrails.

It was a scene done by myself. It was a scene of chaos, where knowledge had been uprooted and left to decay, a grim monument to uncontrolled fury.

"Reynold! Enough of this!" My brother shouted from the doorway. The doors had been ripped off their hinges and laid scattered with the rest of the mess. "You've been at it for five days! Give it a rest."

"I can't..." I muttered from the lit fireplace. Not bothering to face him. "She hates me."

He scoffed. "That's what this is about. That's why you won't talk to anyone and why this once magnificent library is destroyed. All because of a girl."

"Not just any girl!" I spun on my heel. "She makes me feel alive in ways I never thought possible. Now... she's gone. And it's my fault."

His demeanor changed to a sympathetic look. "Rey, it's not your fault. You acted out in a fit of rage. She saw you in a vulnerable moment."

"But she hates me." I mumbled. "She hates me. She's scared of me!" I raised my voice. "The one person I didn't want to fear me does."

"Well, tearing this library to shreds won't fix it." He walked up to me and put a hand on my shoulder. "Maybe you can change how she feels."

I scoffed. "There's no use. You know how stubborn she is."

Killian chuckled. "That I do." He took his hand off my shoulder and sighed. "But staying here won't fix anything. You have to become a functioning member of society again. You already have enough absences at school."

"So? I can make the teachers forget about those."

"Reynold, I thought we all agreed not to compel the school staff and actually do our work."

"We did? I don't recall."

He rolled his eyes. A small smile sat on his face. "Also you can't miss homecoming.

I scoffed. "There's no way in hell you can drag me to that."

"Oh come on. Everyone's going."

"Don't care. Speaking of everyone, where are they?"

"They are at school." He looked at his watch. "Considering it is 1:15."

"Hm. Good for them."

"Let's get you out of this place." He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and we headed out of the library. "When was the last time you fed?"

"What day is it?"

"Wednesday."

"Last Friday."
