As Andromeda, Anmy, and Sabine entered the underground beneath the ancient city of Alanari, the flickering torchlight cast by Andromeda and their teacher, Anmy, gave them just enough light. "No one had been down here for over 10,000 years—not since the first people built this city on top of an even older structure.

Sabine clutched her amulet, a gift from her mother before she left for the Monastery of the Scimagi. Anmy held the torch as Sabine had asked, raising it to illuminate the intricate engravings on the limestone walls. There was only a faint impression left of what had once been carved here long ago.

"Do you think the war will last?" asked Andromeda as Sabine examined the entrance to the catacombs beneath the ancient city of Alanari. The sector was under siege from the wild men living in the snowy south. The walls of the city had been extended up the side of a 4,000-foot-high mountainside, directly across from the Scimagi Monastery.

Many of the lowlanders believed they were descendants of the god Alexander Alinor, who had disbanded the Stone Army over 20,000 years before the formation of the Empires of Alanari. Sabine tipped the stone spear slightly toward the light, which shone down through the crumbling ceiling.

The spear was under some kind of weighted mechanism, and as Sabine lifted the spearhead to face the light, it caught and refracted the beam. Suddenly, the dusty stone door slid open with a low rumble, releasing a cloud of ancient dust. "Andromeda! It worked!" Sabine exclaimed, glancing back at Andromeda and Anmy, who both smiled as they moved forward, deeper into the unknown in search of the Fragments of Alexander’s Robes of the Scimagi.

Andromeda summoned a magical light that hovered above them, drifting along like a flower following the wind. It floated beside them as they descended into the darkness—a place untouched by human footsteps for over 10,000 years. Along the walls were depictions of generations of kings, queens, and the first rulers of the united land.

"What’s this?" Sabine whispered as they approached a carved figure. There were writings that needed to be deciphered.

"Do you recognize this language?" asked Andromeda. Anmy, the Professor of Dark Scimagi—science magic—held up her own book, which had a built-in device. She hovered the book over the ancient masonry and began to read aloud.

"As the sky fell away and darkness retreated from the world, Alax glowed bright as his essence faded. He sacrificed his life; the sun bent and touched the land. The snow melted, and the Order no longer terrorized the land. May he rest in peace among the stars above." The clouds of darkness faded, leaving us with a question: "What really happened to Alax?"
