The next day, Nate kept looking at me. Making sure I didn't tell anyone about our last conversation.

At lunch Liam asked to speak to me.

Everything is okay.
Everything will be okay.
Nothing is wrong.
He just wants to talk.
It's okay.
Calm down.
We're calm. I am calm. I am calm.

"Uh, so I'm sorry about what I said about you and Nate." Liam paused. "I thought you were dating but I guess you're not."

I am not calm. I am not calm. I am very not calm!

"Oh, uh me and Nate." I did a nervous laugh. Oh god what am I doing. Stop now before you embarrass yourself more than you already have! "Pfft, I'm sorry for telling you we weren't together. We are! Like totally are. Pfft ain't it crazy! It's crazy. So crazy!" Oh god- what did I just say! I am such an idiot.
Liam looked at me for a moment before speaking, "um, yeah...crazy. Bye Amie." Liam walked away. He probably thinks I'm crazy! I was acting like a crazy person! Like of course he thinks I'm crazy!

You know he probably hate you now.
A voice in my head said.
No he doesn't. He is probably just shocked.
He's never going to forgive you. You really are a freak. He's probably going to make your life hell again.
Shut up.

Great, now I definitely crazy. Having an argument with a voice in my head! I have a voice, in my head. Tell me with confidence that isn't what happens to crazy people!

I decided to forget about this all. I decided to go find my friends.

I eventually found them, they were gossiping about something. When I walked up to them I was attacked but my friends with confusion.
"Uhm, when was this?"
"Why didn't you tell us?"
"You said it wasn't true!"
"What are you all on about?" I say, making them go quiet fro a second.
"Fine, I'll ask it. How come you denied dating Nate?" Lilah asked.
"Oh that, how'd you find out?" I asked.
"Nate." Jazzy said, as if she was going to explode.
"Jazzy!" Amber looked at her.
"Sorry!" Jazzy gave an awkward smile. "I couldn't help it."
"Right. Going back to my original question. Why didn't you tell us?" Lilah asked me, "we're your friends."
I looked down at the floor, before looking back at my friends. "You're right. I was going to tell you-"
I was interrupted by Amber, "When?" She asked. Her voice seemed hurt, I never told Amber what happened the night when Liam confronted me. So it must've hurt more finding it out after everyone knew. I felt worse than I did ten seconds ago.
"I'm sorry." I remembered Nate's words, about hurting Liam and Lilah. "I wasn't sure if me and Nate were confirmed at the time." I felt terrible lying. If only they knew I was doing it to protect the people I cared about. I even had to lie to Liam. Which was worse than I thought it would be. My friends looked at me before Jazzy let out a sigh.
"You know we love you so much, Amie. Just no more secrets, or lies." Jazzy smiled at me.

No more lies

Kept replaying in my mind. I had literally just lied to them. This was going to be so hard. Why does Nate want me to do this? He said not to ask and when he told me to pretend and be his girlfriend, I was too terrified and shocked to ask, so I left it. But now I'm curious to know.
