Y/n's pov

You stare at the door Xaden disappeared into, sleep disappearing into nothing. To others, Xaden was full of secrets like his shadows, but he knew better to tell you everything in normal circumstances. Or before, you had pieced things together  and cornered him about it, and after a few explosive fights, Xaden knew to tell you everything.

You wonder if he needed something from his room urgently or whether there was something with the border? But why would he leave without telling you why? Since you were on the front lines of the rebellion with Xaden, you still got updates on the border from Xaden even when you couldn't leave Basgiath. Sighing, you decide to ask him when he returns. Even though he does not return.

'Cherry.'

'Cherry!'

'Gods, you scared me. I'm not used to hearing someone shout in my skull, you know.' You reply to Hwad silently, anxiety starting creep as you hear the urgency in her voice.

'This is urgent! The unbonded are coming your way. You'd better prepare or get out of there.' She says quickly, and you hear the footsteps through the corridor.

'Cherry?'

'Shhh. I can hear them.' You count the number of footsteps outside the door, your heart pulsing against your skin.

One.
Two.
Three...?

No four.
Five.
Six people outside.

You silence your breathing, focusing all your attention to those outside.

'Are you sure about this? She's Fourth Wing's wingleader's-'

'Do you want a dragon or not?'

'Just get it done already. She'll wake any time now.'

Focusing on your senses, you reach for your bow, tugging the arrow through the hole and lodging it between the bowstring. You hear the sound of the bowstring stretching as you pull it past your chin, aimed at the door. The door clicks open, a set of blue eyes going wide as you let the arrow fly. It hits its mark on the blue eyes' forehead, his eyes rolling backward before collapsing. The second unbonded cadet flexes her dagger, almost breaking into a sprint, but the arrow lodges in between the bowstring and your finger like a reflex, arrow flying. The girl clutches at her heart, the arrowhead poking out from her shoulder, and her dagger clanks onto the floor along with her dead body.

'Get her!' You hear the black haired one hiss, a glinting dagger flying towards you. It makes a vibrating sound as it lands on your wooden wardrobe, the black haired guy charging at you beside it. You grip your arrow in your bare hand, slashing at his throat like a dagger. Blood spatters on your cheek as Hwad roars into your bond.

'They can't hear you!' You mentally yell at her, Hwad growling loudly as you throw your dagger at the brunette with an axe. He makes a flimsy move to hit it back with his axe, the dagger only landing its mark on his throat. The only sound is the blood spraying on the wall, his scream cut from his vocal cords becoming shredded.

'See?' You say to Hwad, turning back to the girl with strawberry blonde hair.

'I don't care. I'm about to fly over there and crush their necks-'

You swing your fist against the strawberry blonde girl, Amber Mavis, ducking as she digs her dagger towards your face. Grabbing the arrow from the floor, you drag the arrowhead across her thigh, her screaming in pain. Without missing a beat, you slash her other leg, blood spraying on the walls. She stumbles back as you land another blow to her face, Mavis screeching in pain.
