Y/n's pov

As much as you all want to stay in Aretia, forgetting about everything that happened, the board decides that the students must go back to Basgiath. Act as if you are oblivious as if everything was part of the War Games. You look over to Xaden as he packs his and your things up from his room, you both having not spoken a word since yesterday. There are not many things to pack up, except for your arrows and a few items that you were taking from your room.

You sigh, watching Xaden's back tense as he puts everything into a fabric bag. When you all go back, he will be graduating and going onto official outposts while you stay back in Basgiath for the second year. The end of your relationship once and for all. Well, that is given that you all don't get executed the second you get to the said college.

'We're leaving now.' Imogen says, her face peeking through the door from the corridor. She comes in carefully, placing a pocket with a strap around you. 'We packed some bread and water for the flight.' She says as she moves on to do the same for Xaden, the same pocket dangling from her side for her own. Xaden nods, picking up the filled bags from the floor.

'Thanks.' You reply to Imogen, avoiding Xaden's eyes as you follow her out of the room toward where the dragons are waiting.

The flight is mostly silent, as the impending doom gets closer with every second of the flight. Violet shifts on Tairn, her expression already pale and terrified at what the punishment would be when you got back, for not showing up on time to Basgiath after the War Games. The battle where you all were supposed to die, but came back up alive after days.

'Approaching.' Xaden orders through the loud wind rushing past you, Basgiath coming into view below the grey clouds. You swallow, the green flight field looking so alien yet familiar. Just a week ago, you were so happy. Xaden was by your side, Violet was not annoying you as much as she used to, and everyone seemed fine, or as fine as they could be given that they were in Basgiath. Even though things were not perfect, it wasn't as wrecked as it was now. And perhaps, everything was about to end.

'We face it together, Cherry.' Hwad says as the dragons plummet downward, wings steady by their sides. You grip her scales, your legs in place against the saddle. Her wings beat as you all get nearer to the ground, the formation without half your squad in the field. You watch as some cadets look up hearing the strong sounds of the dragons flying, including some professors.

'Here goes nothing.' Hwad says again, landing beside Tairn with a loud thud. You feel your stomach twist, seeing General Sorrengail and Colonel Aetos' eyes shifting over to you and the others. Violet dismounts from her dragon, General Sorrengail's eyes looking somehow relieved seeing her daughter. You watch the three of them talk, Xaden coming down from Sgaeyl to stand beside her facing the two of them.

'Let's go.' You reply quietly, Hwad dipping her shoulder to let you down. You approach them, along with the others by their dragons, but Xaden stops you, his hand on your arm keeping you stay behind him.

'I'm telling the truth.' You hear Violet say, her face staring straight at General Sorrengail as if to challenge her to disagree. Xaden pulls you closer despite how much you want to let go, his grip keeping you on your spot. Colonel Aetos turns bright red as he glances at General Sorrengail, her eyes just as cold as ice, turning her gaze to Aetos.

'I need a good long conversation about your little performance, Colonel Aetos.' She says, her voice icy. Violet shudders slightly as Colonel Aetos glares at her and Xaden, his eyes moving to find yours. His expression flares red in anger for a second as he watches you, before Xaden blocks him from glaring at you longer.
