Amelia, a 24-year-old French teacher known for her gentle and supportive nature, had always been a beacon of warmth and enthusiasm in her private classes. Her students cherished her not only for her exceptional teaching skills but also for the kindness she extended to each of them.

One of her students, Joe, a 27-year-old doctor who attended her French classes out of personal interest, had always admired Amelia’s kindness. He appreciated not just her skill in teaching French but also her empathetic nature. Amelia's classroom was a place where students felt uplifted, and Joe was no exception. He often looked forward to her classes as a respite from his demanding medical career, finding comfort in her supportive presence.

One day, Joe arrived for his usual private class with Amelia, as he settled into his usual seat, he was startled when Amelia, affectionately called "Ami" by him, walked into the room. Her usual bright demeanor was noticeably dim, and she wore a face mask. She seemed to be struggling with each step, her movements slower than usual.

Seeing her like this, Joe immediately stood up with a look of concern. "Ami, how are you feeling?" he asked, his voice laced with worry.

Without waiting for a response, he gently placed his hand on her forehead. “You’ve developed a fever of at least 101 to 102 degrees,” he said, his fingers feeling the heat radiating from her skin. His concern deepened as he reached to check her lymph nodes under her jaw. Amelia winced slightly at his touch, confirming his suspicion that they were swollen.
“Why didn’t you cancel the class, Ami?” Joe asked, his voice firm yet caring.
Amelia managed a weak smile, her eyes reflecting her fatigue. “I’m good, Joe. I can handle it,” she said, though her voice was faint and strained.

Joe wasn’t convinced. “Did you see any doctor?” he inquired, his concern growing.
Amelia shook her head slightly. “No, I couldn’t. I’ve been so busy with work and… well, I thought I’d manage it on my own,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Joe sighed, his worry evident. “Ami, you can come to my office after the class."
“Thank you.”

Joe nodded, his face showing relief. “You’re always welcome, I'd be more than happy to help.”

The conversation shifted to lighter topics as Joe and Amelia continued with the lesson, but Joe’s mind remained focused on her well-being. His admiration for her was only deepened by her dedication, but he knew that sometimes, even the most dedicated need to take a step back and seek help.

As the lesson concluded, Joe gently gathered Amelia’s teaching materials and guided her toward the door.

“Ami, let me drive you to the hospital. My office is there, and we can get you checked out properly,” he said, his tone gentle yet firm.
Amelia hesitated, her fatigue evident.
“Joe, I don’t want to be a bother. You must be so busy with your patients.”Joe smiled reassuringly.
“You’re not a bother at all, Ami. You’ve always been there for us, for me. Let me return the favor.
”Amelia nodded weakly, her energy waning. “Alright, thank you,” she said softly.

Joe helped her into his car, making sure she was comfortable before starting the engine. As they drove through the quiet streets, the soft hum of the car provided a soothing background to their conversation.

“Ami, how long have you been feeling like this?” Joe asked, his eyes briefly glancing at her before returning to the road.
“A few days, I guess,” Amelia replied, her voice faint.
“It started with a sore throat and a slight fever, but I thought it would go away on its own.
”Joe frowned, his concern deepening.
“You should have seen a doctor earlier. It’s important to take these symptoms seriously, especially if they persist.”
Amelia sighed, her head resting against the window.
“I know, but I didn’t want to miss any classes. My students rely on me, and I didn’t want to let them down.”
Joe’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. “Your health is more important, Ami. Your students need you to be well. You can’t take care of them if you’re not taking care of yourself.
”Amelia nodded, her eyes closed as she listened to Joe’s words.
“You’re right, Joe. I should have been more careful.”
Joe glanced at her again, his expression softening.
“We all need to remind ourselves of that sometimes. Now, let’s get you to the hospital and see what’s going on.”
