A WORD WITH DUMBLEDORE
I woke up in the infirmary, again.
Draco was passed out right next to me. His hand was just barely touching mine. I lay there smiling at the adorable sight. He had a smile on his slightly coloured cheeks. I took a deep breath, which woke him up. His hand brushed mine as he retracted it, realising how close our hands were. He leaped from his chair to give me a large hug. He was so happy I was okay, "Are you okay? Is Voldemort still inside your head? What happened to your eyes?"
"Wait, what? What's wrong with my eyes?" I said puzzled, breaking the hug, scared that they turned red or something.
Draco found me a hand-held mirror. We discovered that my eyes stopped glowing, but they had turned a deep emerald green.
"Oh my," I examined my eyes. I liked the shade, it was perfectly Slytherin! "I'm perfectly fine though Draco, the danger is over. However, I now know a dangerous spell, so don't ever get on my bad side. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is completely gone," I joked going back in for the hug.
I didn't want to let go of the hug and neither did Draco, but Harry, Ron, and Hermione came tumbling into the Hospital Wing. I ushered them to stay out for a bit as I was, clearly, mid-hug and having a moment! After we broke the hug, I signaled they could come in. Draco got up to leave but I told him to stay. Ron blurted out, "Oh My God! I heard what happened! Is You-Know-Who still there? What's with your eyes?"
I laughed, "I'm fine! He's gone... and my eyes changed colour!"
They all examined my eyes for what felt like forever then they all gave me hugs. After Hermione's hug, the doors opened to reveal Professor Dumbledore. He slowly walked towards my bed. He wore purple robes, a pointed purple hat, and his beard and hair was flowing down like a white waterfall. He spoke gently, "May I have a word with Miss Haynes, please?"
They all groaned when I waved my arms to signal them to get out. "Okay, important business. Go on, get out," I ushered with a laugh.
They walked out of the Hospital Wing as Dumbledore approached me. He stood at the foot of my bed, "Draco told me everything. You had accepted Lord Voldemort into your mind. Why?"
"I'm sorry, Headmaster. I didn't know what I was doing. He really wanted to help me. My parents left me, Draco had left me, I didn't think..." I looked down, ashamed.
"Now, now. It's alright Victoria. Many people before you have been under the influence of dark magic," He claimed with reassurance.
"Am I gonna be expelled?" I worried.
"No, heavens no! I don't expel people for going to great lengths to try and save themselves from danger, death, or even simply a bad life," Dumbledore shook his head.
"It's just, he was in my head! My mind was racing! I-I-I-I murdered a baby bird with an advanced spell!" I whimpered.
"I sometimes find, and I'm sure you know the feeling, that I simply have too many thoughts and memories crammed into my mind," He said, wisely. "But even though he offered help, you didn't fully take it. You must understand, it is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. If you can destroy the most powerful at your worst, then you are stronger than you realise."
I laid back to reflect on what he just said, taking the time to truly understand it and let it sink in. "Thank you, Headmaster," I smiled.
"No. Thank you, Victoria," He said nodding, "You are the truest Slytherin there is."
"Can I ask something?" I wanted to question something before he left.
"What is it my dear?" He asked.
"What happened to the stone? Harry told me a lot but I still didn't understand," I inquired, confused.
"The Sorcerer's Stone is a magical stone that can turn anything into gold and give the holder internal life. It has been destroyed so no one can wield such power," He answered.
"Thank you. Everyone can come back in now," I shouted to the group, who I knew was waiting impatiently outside the Hospital Wing doors.
I watched Dumbledore slowly walk away, but I did catch him sneaking a chocolate coin from a large table of gifts next to my bed. When he officially left, the trio and Draco came rushing in. They all sat with me and opened my get-well gifts. I got baskets, boxes, and jars of treats, snacks, fun games, and weird prank objects all wrapped in plastic and colourful wrapping paper.
~~~~~Skip to Dinner~~~~~
Every single student gathered in the Great Hall for dinner. Dumbledore was officially going to announce the winner of the House Cup. everyone was wearing their blackest robes and for this special occasion, black pointed hats.
I sat in between Draco and Daphne excited for Dumbledore to announce the winner. Everyone already knew the winner was Slytherin as the ceiling was draped in green and silver banners that showed the Slytherin crest. Slytherin had won against everyone every year, but everyone was still sitting in anticipation hoping for a change in pace.
Professor McGonagall tapped her glass and Dumbledore stood up slowly. He boomed loudly, "Another year gone. And now as I understand it, the House Cup needs awarding! The points stand thus; in fourth place, Gryffindor, with three-hundred and twelve points.
Third place, Hufflepuff, with three-hundred and fifty-two points.
In second place, Ravenclaw, with four-hundred and twenty-six points.
And in first place, with four-hundred and seventy-two points, Slytherin house!"
Slytherin house jumped for joy, practically screaming at the information from Dumbledore. Professor Snape, Head of Slytherin, kept his dull face but clapped furiously with enjoyment at another win. Everyone else clapped measly because they didn't win. Draco smirked over at Harry. It was funny, but I felt a little bad considering they were in fourth place.
Dumbledore continued, "Yes, yes, well done, Slytherin. Well done, Slytherin. However, recent events must be taken into account, and I have a few last-minute points to award." As he spoke everyone had anticipation, and Slytherins were angry hoping no house would overtake them in winning the House Cup. He continued, "To Miss Hermione Granger, for the cool use of intellect, while others were in grave peril, fifty points."
Everyone at the Gryffindor table cheered for her. "Second, to Mr. Ronald Weasley, for the best-played game of chess that Hogwarts has seen these many years, fifty points."
Everyone cheered for him, although I don't think that was really an accomplishment. "And third, to Mr. Harry Potter, for pure nerve and outstanding courage, I award Gryffindor House, sixty points."
People were doing the calculations, Gryffindor and Slytherin were tied for the House Cup. "Fourth, it takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends. I award ten points to Neville Longbottom."
Gryffindor passed Slytherin, they have won the House Cup. Slytherin began to groan and protest about this. But Dumbledore had one more thing to say, "And finally, for fighting a powerful dark force, even though they were broken down to the worst. I award ten points to Miss Victoria Haynes!"
Then, the Slytherin table filled with applause, laughter, and cheers. We were tied up again with Gryffindor. "Assuming my calculations are correct, I believe that a change of decorations is in order."
With a clap of Dumbledore's hands, half of the green and silver Slytherin banners turned into scarlet and gold Gryffindor banners, showing we were tied for the House Cup. "For the first time in Hogwarts history, two houses have won. Gryffindor and Slytherin have won the House Cup!"
Both tables erupted like two enormous volcanos and everyone screamed, shouted, and roared in celebration and applause. Everyone grabbed their hats and threw them in the air like muggle graduation, the space above filled with black, pointed hats.
I threw mine straight up in the air and it landed back on my head, a perfect toss. Daphne and I exploded by giving everyone hugs and handshakes. People rushed me with congratulations on helping Slytherin win the House Cup.
