Dear Journal,

Today, I met May's family for the first time during Thanksgiving. We traveled to the small town in the Midwest where she grew up. It was surreal seeing the place that shaped her childhood and meeting the people who are such a big part of her life.

Their house is small but filled with warmth and love. May has three siblings—two brothers and a sister. The youngest is still in high school. Her father, a gruff mechanic, and her mother, a sweet school teacher, welcomed me into their home. It's a stark contrast to my slightly narcissistic mother and absent father.

Despite their rough edges and not fully understanding May's way of life, her family truly loves and cares for her. During dinner, her father asked me about my intentions with his daughter. May tried to intervene, but I answered honestly, telling him that I love her and will give my all to make her happy. He nodded, accepting my words with a gruff approval.

Her mother, kind and attentive, asked if I liked the food. It was comforting and delicious, a far cry from the fancy dinners I'm used to. Her older brothers tried to give me the typical "shovel talk," but May chased them away with a laugh. Seeing her with her family, I understand her a little more now. She comes from a place of genuine love and down-to-earth values.

I think I've made a good impression, and I'm grateful for this glimpse into her world. It's another piece of the puzzle that makes May who she is, and I'm falling more in love with her every day.

Much to do,

Alexander
