the 6 year old [h/c]ette peeked out the corner, checking to see if one of her parents were available to play with her.

her smile faded when it was the typical sight. her mother was on the phone, a phone held in place on her shoulder as she quickly flipped through papers. she was seated in the kitchen, busy talking on the phone.

her father on the other hand, was watching tv in the living room. he had a bottle of alcohol in his hand and a handful of curse left his mouth when his favorite team missed a goal.

she flinched at the sudden raise in voice of her mothers, she yelled at her father, who only scoffed and rolled his eyes.

[y/n] bit her lips, a nervous and fearful expression on her face. she couldn't bring herself to ask one of her parents to play with her.

after her mother clenched her jaw and glared at her. telling her in a stern voice about how girls shouldn't be playing with toys and should be cleaning around the house.

after her father threw a bottle against the wall, the loud noise startling the poor young girl. he screamed and yelled at her to clean his mess, saying words a 6 year old should never hear.

maybe work and football really was more important than a child like her.

[y/n] walked around the playground, a small pout on their lips.

she was lonely. no one bothered to play or talk with her which made her feel left out.

she watched with sad eyes as the other kids played happily on the swings.

all she ever wanted was a friend, anyone, she didn't care. she just wanted someone to at least acknowledge her. to let her know that she was there and is apart of the other kids, not just some loner who had no friends.

but the little girl knew that day would never happen. not when she knew the other kids disliked her.

until a few days later. it finally happened.

[y/n] overheard some of her classmates talking about a new student. wow she didn't them to be gossiping at this age. but she couldn't be talking since she did have no one to talk to anyways.

she leaned closer to hear the conversation better, genuinely interested in what they were saying.

"i saw at least two people in the principles office! one was a girl and the other was a boy!" one of the girls giggled, twirling her blonde curly hair.

the other gasped, her eyes widening in excitement. "a boy?! i hope he's cute! all of these guys here are stinky!" she whined and pointed at the group of boys that were playing outside.

her group of friends laughed at her complaint, [y/n] finally backed away and blinked confusingly at the new information.

'they're probably the same as the others. i should stay away from them.'

the next day came and as expected, two new students were coming in today.

[y/n] zoned out as she were sure they would both end up ignoring her, just like the others.

'i just want to go and see winnie..' she frowned and sniffled at how badly she missed her calico cat.

"hey..? are you okay..?" an unfamiliar voice spoke to her, startling [y/n].

she immediately straightened her back in surprise, staring at the person with wide eyes.

the girl had bright red hair, her sharp eyes staring back at her [e/c] eyes. the girl tilted her head, expecting an answer.

[y/n] flushed embarrassingly as she realized it was one of the new students.

"y–yes! i'm fine!" [y/n] hurriedly answered, quickly turning away once she did.

her cheeks brightened when she heard a small giggle beside her. she had just messed up on her only chance to make friends!!

she mentally scolded herself, tearing up how embarrassed she was currently feeling.

"why are you so shy? we don't bite!" the girl said to her again. [y/n]'s head perked at that. we?

she turned her head, eyes widening when she saw a boy waving at her. he was definitely the other new student, [y/n] not recognizing his face.

now that she stares at him longer, he was... kinda cute..

and she knew the other girls in her class agreed with her thought, their stares and giggles being obvious.

[y/n] nodded shyly. the girl grinned, leaning back on her chair.

"nice to meetcha! i'm rebecca, but call me red for short. this is craig, my cousin! he might seem like he hates you but really, he's a big softie in the inside." 'red' playfully pointed at her cousin who glared at her.

[y/n] gulped. what was she supposed to do with this information..?

she copied what people on television did.

"m–my name is [y/n].." she quietly whispered, sighing in relief when the other two somehow heard her.

red excitedly giggled, "i like you! we'll be the bestest friends from now on!" she exclaimed, making [y/n] freeze at the words that left her mouth.

'best friends.?'

craig huffed, lightly hitting his cousin on her head. "you can't just say that. what if she already has her own best friend?" he scolded her in a monotone, making [y/n] crack a small smile.

that small smile turned into a wide smile, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

"no.. let's be best friends forever!"

for the first time, her classmates realized how pure the young girl really was.

but that happiness wouldn't last for long when [y/n] was forced to move away with her aunt.

her parents made sure her happiness would never last long. they always knew how to.
