SONG: Medicate ARTIST: Breaking Benjamin

..."...You tie me up...I've had enough...So medicate...Medicate..."...

"You kissed her? Seriously? Did she punch you in the balls or something?" Jake questions with a small smile.

The grin on his face confuses me.

"She kissed me back. I'm really sorry Jake."

"Why the hell would you be sorry?" He chuckles; confusing me further.

"You're my best friend."

"So, it's not like she's my wife or anything. I don't own the girl. She isn't even my girlfriend. She isn't even my type."

"You're not mad at me then?"

"No, I don't give a shit. Did you like kissing her?"

"Yes."

"Did she like kissing you?"

"As far as I know; I mean she wanted to kiss me again so that must mean she did right?"

"Wait, I'm confused. If you kissed her and she liked it then why didn't you kiss her again? Please tell me it wasn't because of me." His light brown eyes soften as the conversation takes a more serious turn.

"It was because of you. She said it wasn't right that we kissed while she was involved with you."

"She said that?" Jake runs his hand over his unshaven face in an absentminded gesture as he shakes his head in disbelief.

"Yeah, she said she knows that you two aren't serious or anything and since you two never really laid out any ground rules ,so to speak, then she needed to have a talk with you about your situation."

"Hmm, I guess I should give a little more credit then." Jake says more to himself than to me.

I watch him pace around my room for a couple of minutes before he stops and looks at me with a shit eating grin on his face.

"Why are you smiling at me like that?"

"You like a girl Landon." He says in a surprisingly soft tone as he studies my face.

He's looking at me like I'm some kind of rare species or some sort of mythical creature.

"Of course I like girls, you idiot."

"That's not what I meant. I know you like girls but you like a girl. Landon, you haven't liked a girl since Amanda. I means, sure you've looked at a few girls here and there but none of them made you get that look on your face."

"What look?"

"The look that tells me that you like a girl. I haven't seen that look on your face since we were thirteen and you started talking to the mind fucker."

"Yeah well, Amanda really did a number on me and I guess it just took me a while to get over that."

"I get that but I also think meeting a girl that you have never even seen before, one that we didn't go to school with since we were little, might have something to do it."

"You're probably right about that. There's lots of girls that go to our school that I think are pretty and nice enough  but they all look at me the same. Faith doesn't look at me like that."

"What do you mean they all look at you the same?"

"They all look at me like they pity me. Some of them even look grossed out when they look at me. I never really  cared before but I can remember a hand full of girls that used to drool over me when I was with Amanda; those girls won't even give me the time of day now that my spine is fucked up."
