"I can't believe Callie hugged me."

"She's trying so hard to be more comfortable around you Landon. I told her, how much I miss her and I told her, how nice it would be for her to be able to come over and hang out or eat dinner with us. She told me, that she would start coming around more and that she would do her best to feel more comfortable around you."

"I'm glad she's trying because I know how important she is to you and I want you to be able to spend time with your friend."

"If I tell you something do you promise never to say anything to her or Jake?"

"Okay, I promise."

"The reason why Callie is so nervous around you isn't because of your accident."

"It isn't? Then why is she like that?"

"Well, I told her she was being shallow for acting that way just because of your crutches and she started bawling and said that it wasn't true. She told me, the reason why she was like that around you is because when she was fifteen, she had a huge crush on you but you were already dating Amanda by then and she never said anything to you. Then she told me, that she was at a party and walked in on Amanda kissing another guy and that made her angry because she thought you were like the greatest thing since sliced bread and she couldn't understand why Amanda would cheat on you. Apparently Callie and the rest of the cheerleaders all talked about you and Amanda quite a bit. All the girls said how terrible it was for her to be cheating on you."

"You gotta be fucking kidding me!" I practically shout.

"I didn't want to say anything to you but I thought you should know the real reason why Callie had so much trouble around you. From the sounds of it, everyone knew what your girlfriend was doing except for you. The cheerleaders, the football team, I guess even some of the track team knew."

"This is so fucked up." I say as I run my fingers through my hair.

"Callie thinks, that the biggest reason why all the people that used to be friends with you stay away from you, is because they feel terrible about everything. I mean think about it Landon, not only was your girlfriend cheating on you but then she dumps you after the accident. I think, maybe people were just worried about slipping up and telling you about Amanda and making things worse for you and that's probably the real reason why they all avoid you."

"Do you think Jake knew all of this?" I ask the question but I'm not sure I want to know the answer to it.

"No, Jake doesn't know about any of it. Callie told me that everyone was always careful about what was said around him because he's your best friend. If Jake knew about it, he would have told you Landon."

"I know but I still had to ask. I guess even if Jake did know, I couldn't really be mad at him for keeping it secret. He wouldn't want me to be hurt by it." I resolve.

"Are you upset about it now?"

"Kind of."

"I'm really sorry she did that to you Landon."
