"Cro?"
"Cronan?"
"Cronan, baby, wake up."
I cracked my eyes open and glanced at Fen who was lying beside me with far too much energy for five in the morning.
"'Morning," I greeted groggily.
"Good morning." Fen kissed my forehead while his other hand, which I was practically using as a pillow, played with my hair. "Do you remember what today is?"
How could I forget? He'd only mentioned it twelve hundred times. Today was supposed to be the day we left Oakwood so we could make it to Lola and Abel's adoption and to say Fen was excited was the understatement of the fucking century.
We'd expected it to take longer than a few months, but with their situation already being unique, them being werewolves, and the emphasis on keeping Lola and Abel together, the situation moved faster than we thought.
Fen was determined to be there and I wasn't going to take that from him which was how we ended up rushing to leave Oakwood at five in the morning.
"I know what day it is," I assured, glancing at him.
Fen's face lit up, a wide grin spreading across his lips. "I can't wait to see them again. It feels like forever since we've visited."
I smiled despite my grogginess. Fen's excitement was infectious, even this early. I stretched, trying to shake the lingering sleep from my body. "Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm getting up."
Fen chuckled, brushing his thumb gently against my cheek. "Take your time. We've got a long drive ahead."
He was practically bouncing, and it was impossible not to feel at least a little bit of that energy seep into me. Even though I would've much preferred to stay in bed a little longer, I knew how much this day meant to him.
I pushed myself to sit up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "I can't believe they're finally getting adopted. Seems like just yesterday they were worried if it would happen."
Fen's eyes softened. "Yeah... it's incredible how fast everything came together. I'm glad though. I didn't want them to spend years worrying about what would or wouldn't happen."
"You talked to them last night while I was gone, right?" I asked, disappearing inside the bathroom but making sure to leave the door open so I could hear him.
"Yeah, they were excited about spending the day with us," he told me. "How'd CJ handle the drive?"
"He hated it like you thought he would," I said.
Since we were leaving, Fen was worried about CJ being left alone so we made the decision to leave him with a friend while we were gone. I'd initially planned to leave him with Callie or Penelope since they were already in Oakwood, but Eli practically begged to have CJ stay while we were gone.
